INSIDE THE SERIES
The Catamounts and Retrievers meet for the 46th time in series history. Vermont has a 36-9 all-time record against UMBC, but a 3-2 record in the last five meetings. The America East rivals have split the last 10 meetings, as well as the two meetings in 2020-21 season series. The UVM-UMBC rivalry began with three postseason meetings from 2018 to 2020. The two programs have combined to win three of the last four America East Titles.
SCOUTING THE RETRIEVERS
UMBC is fresh off a 76-56 victory over NJIT on Wednesday for its first win in conference play. The Retrievers had lost five straight prior to Wednesday. Three players have averaged double figures under head coach Jim Ferry who is in his first season with the program. Keondre Kennedy leads UMBC with 14.5 points per game. Darnell Rogers (11.9 ppg) and L.J. Owens (10.1 ppg) round out the Retrievers averaging double figures.
BACK ON THE ROAD
Vermont is back on the road for the first time since its Dec. 10 matchup against Brown that resulted in a 70-65 victory for the Catamounts. UVM had opened the season with eight of its first 11 games away from Patrick Gym.
RECORD 19
The Catamounts sank a program-best 19 three pointers in Wednesday's 98-65 victory over Stony Brook. UVM's 19 deep balls bested the previous record of 17, which was set in 1994 against Middlebury.
Finn Sullivan led the UVM shooting with 19 points on a game-high four treys.
LOU HENSON WATCH LIST
Ryan Davis was named to the Lou Henson Award's Mid-Season Watch List. The senior was one of 41 mid-major players from across the country on the list. Davis was also the lone America East player on the list. The Lou Henson Award is given to the nation's top mid-major player.
DAVIS FROM DEEP
Ryan Davis has converted on 87.5% (14-of-16) of his three-point attempts over the last five games. The forward was a career-best 4-for-4 from deep at Brown on Dec. 10. Davis' only misses during the five-game stretch came on a 3-for-5 afternoon against Colgate.
