COACH'S QUOTE
"Good second effort game in many respects," Head Coach
Todd Woodcroft said. "We stayed in the game until late and maintained resiliency. We think our five-on-five is on its path to where we want it to be but our offensive game and PP need to be fine-tuned before next weekend. This coming week will be spent finding alternative ways to create offense."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts came out with a jump in the first period, outshooting UConn 11-6, but they couldn't solve the Huskies' Arsenii Sergeev.
- Minutes into the second period the Huskies had 57 seconds of 5-on-3 action. UConn hit two posts and Vermont's Oskar Autio made an excellent blocker save as UVM killed the two-man advantage.
- On the remaining five-on-four segment the Huskies struck with Matthew Wood's second goal of the weekend series. He ripped a wrist shot off the crossbar and in 4:05 into the middle frame. Andrew Lucas and Ryan Tverberg earned assists on the tally.
- Chase Bradley doubled the UConn advantage 9:17 into the second period. Bradley deflected a centering feed from Nick Capone that just beat Autio.
- Ty Amonte made it a three-goal advantage 1:04 into the third period. Wood assisted on Amonte's first tally with UConn.
- With 7:25 to go in the third period Porter Schachle struck for the Catamounts with his first goal of the season. A Luca Münzenberger point shot generated a large rebound and first year Ralfs Bergmanis skated into the slot to deflect the puck away from two UConn forwards. After corralling the puck, he passed over to Schachle on the wing and he one-timed it home.
- The Catamounts pulled their goalie with 1:53 to play looking to cut further into the deficit. Sergeev made two saves in the final moments to preserve the win.
