COACH'S QUOTE
"Pleased with our start and first period," Head Coach
Todd Woodcroft said. "Pleased with most of our third. Second period was not friendly to us and we have to manage the game and the puck better for a full sixty minutes. We fought back and brought the game back to close in the third but then took a penalty that put us on a four-versus-three PK."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts struck early with Isak Walther opening the scoring just 1:14 into the contest. Luca Münzenberger pinched from the point and kept a puck in along the boards to Jacques Bouquot in the corner. Bouquot one-touched a backhand pass right to Walther in the slot and he wired a wrist shot top corner past Northeastern All-American Devon Levi.
- Simon Jellus almost doubled the Vermont advantage with a two-on-one break with 7:34 left in the first period. Jellus looked pass and then fired a shot that beat Levi but rang off the post.
- Northeastern equalized 5:27 into the second period on a two-on-two rush. Matt Choupani redirected a centering feed, while being hooked, from Jack Williams that went just above Gabe Carriere's shoulder.
- The Huskies took the lead 2:46 later with Williams getting the tally this time. Williams received a feed in the slot that he fired on net, Carriere made the initial save but Williams batted the puck out of midair and in for his first collegiate goal.
- With 9:14 to go in the second Sam Colangelo made it 3-1 for the Huskies. Colangelo snuck behind the UVM defenders and took a feed from Jack Hughes right in front of Carriere and outwaited the UVM netminder before putting it home.
- The Catamounts cut the lead in half on the power play with 8:15 to go in the third period. Will Zapernick one-timed a cross-ice feed from Robbie Stucker that beat Levi for his first goal of the season. Münzenberger earned his second assist of the game on the tally.
- With 4:47 to go Aidan McDonough reestablished the two-goal edge with a four-on-three power play marker. Jakov Novak added an empty-netter with 1:37 to play to round out the scoring.
