BOSTON – The reigning America East Champion Vermont men's basketball program has been selected to finish first in the conference preseason poll. The Catamounts received seven first-place votes, and scored 63 points in the coaches' poll. The league also announced its 2022-23 Preseason All-Conference Team, which featured UVM guards,
Finn Sullivan and
Dylan Penn.

Voting was conducted by the league's head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own team. Conference newcomer Bryant was selected second in the poll, receiving two first-place votes, and a score of 58 points. UMass Lowell (47 pts) and Binghamton (42 pts) round out the league's top four. Vermont's 2022 America East Championship opponent, UMBC (40 pts) was selected fifth.
The Catamounts are selected first in the America East Preseason Coaches' Poll for the sixth time in the last seven seasons. Vermont has been tabbed as the preseason favorite eight times under Cioffi Men's Basketball Head Coach

Sullivan and Penn's All-Conference honors mark the second consecutive season that a pair of Catamounts received the preseason honor. It is the first preseason honor of Sullivan's career. The San Diego, Calif. native was named to the league's All-Championship Team a season ago. Penn was a member of the ASUN Preseason All-Conference Team as a member of Bellarmine before transferring to Vermont for the upcoming season.

UVM opens up the 2022-23 regular season on Nov. 7 when it hosts Brown at 7 p.m. The Catamounts will welcome back UVM Athletics Hall of Famer TJ Sorrentine '05 who is the associate head coach of the Bears. Prior to the regular season tip off, the Cats will host local colleges Saint Michael's and Middlebury in exhibitions on Oct. 29 and Nov. 2.
Vermont looks to defend its 2022 America East Title and extend its regular season championship streak to seven straight seasons. UVM returns seven members of its roster from a season ago, and adds seven newcomers to the team for the 2022-23 campaign.
