MEN'S HOCKEY NOTEBOOK
After a five-point weekend against New Hampshire the Catamounts return to action this weekend as they travel to face No. 9 Providence in a two-game set from Schneider Arena. Vermont and the Friars will faceoff at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night. The voice of the Catamounts, Adam LaFleur, will broadcast the action live on WVMT (FM 96.3 / AM 620) and the Varsity Network App, which you can download
here. Friday's action will be joined in progress following the conclusion of the Vermont women's basketball game. All of the action will also be broadcast on ESPN+.

CARRIERE NAMED HEA GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK AGAIN
Junior goaltender
Gabe Carriere was named Hockey East's Goaltender of the Week for the second time in three weeks on Monday. Carriere made 43 saves out of 45 shots as the Catamounts swept a weekend series against New Hampshire. In six of his last seven appearances Carriere has given up just one goal or less. In three appearances against Providence last season Carriere maintained a .947 save percentage with 72 saves and 1.68 goals-against average.
BIG WEEKEND FOR ZAPERNICK
Junior alternate captain
Will Zapernick had one goal and two assists against the Wildcats last weekend. Zapernick leads the team this season with three goals and he is tied with
Jacques Bouquot for the team lead with five points. The Catamounts are 6-2-0 when Zapernick finds the back of the net in his career.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS
Providence is 6-2-3 this season while maintaining an undefeated mark of 4-0-1 at home. Last weekend the Friars tied No. 7 UConn 1-1 at home and 6-6 on the road before falling in the shootout each night.
Providence has the ninth best power play in the country converting on 26.7% of its chances. The Friars have scored 12 times on the man advantage this season, senior Patrick Moynihan has four of those tallies. Six Providence players have scored three or more goals this season. Sophomore Riley Duran leads the way with seven goals for Providence. Junior forward Brett Berard has the team lead with 11 points. Last season against the Catamounts Berard had two goals and three assists for five points.
SERIES HISTORY
Providence leads the all-time series between the two teams at 32-28-11. UVM is 13-15-8 on the road against the Friars. Friday will be the 72nd all-time meeting between the two teams. Last season the Friars eliminated Vermont in the Hockey East Opening Round with a 2-1 victory at Schneider Arena. Providence has won five straight against the Catamounts.

SIZE MATTERS
The Catamounts as a team have an average height of 6'1.6" which makes them the tallest team in college hockey. Boston University (6'0.9") is the only other team in Hockey East in the top-10. Vermont is also fourth in the NCAA in average weight at 191.0 pounds.
VERMONT CONNECTION SHINES AT 2022 WORLD JUNIORS
Joel Määttä became the first Catamount in program history to medal at the highest level of the World Juniors in August. He earned a silver medal with Finland, with three goals and an assist in seven games. Head Coach
Todd Woodcroft earned a bronze medal as an assistant coach with Sweden. Ralfs Bergmanis (Latvia) and Luca Münzenberger (Germany) also competed at the 2022 IIHF World Juniors. Assistant Coach

RECORD NUMBER OF CATAMOUNTS ATTEND NHL ROOKIE CAMPS
Vermont had a program-record 11 student-athletes (committed or enrolled) participate at NHL Development Camps this summer.
Joel Määttä who was selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the seventh round of the 2022 NHL Draft attended Oilers camp with his UVM teammate
Luca Münzenberger. Locally
Porter Schachle and
Gabe Carriere were invitees to the Boston Bruins development camp.

The Catamounts enter the new season with six NHL Draft picks on the roster.

GUT HOCKEY GOES INTERNATIONAL
The Vermont roster is comprised of student-athletes from nine different countries. There is at least one player from Finland, Latvia, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Germany, Kazakhstan, Canada and the United States.
TRANSFORMATIONAL FACILITIES UPGRADE
This season is the Catamounts first year in their brand-new facilities in Gutterson Fieldhouse. Vermont will be using a newly built theater style video room, locker room and lounge and Athletic Medicine space this fall. UVM Athletics paired with AMI Graphics to complete the spaces.
