PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A strong second half in the Ocean State wasn't enough for the Vermont men's lacrosse team to dig out of a first-half hole as Providence handed the Cats their second straight defeat, 12-10, Saturday afternoon.
Vermont falls to 2-5 on the season while Providence wins its second straight to move to 4-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Providence jumped out to a 5-1 lead after one quarter and extended that to 8-1 at the half after holding Vermont scoreless in the second quarter.
- The Friars got goals from seven different players in the first half.
- After the break, the Cats started strong in the third scoring the first five goals of the second half all in a span of three minutes to trim the Friar lead to 8-6.
- Thomas McConvey scored two of his career-high six goals during that stretch as did rookie Charlie Pope.
- After a PC goal made it 9-6 with eight minutes to go in the third, Michael McCormack scored his second of the day and McConvey added another to make it a one-goal game heading to the fourth.
- McConvey's sixth of the day pulled the Cats to within one once again with just 1:34 to go but PC won the ensuing faceoff and found and empty cage with 23 seconds to go to ice it.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- McConvey set a career-high for goals in a game for the second time in the last three games.
- Tommy Burke went 16-of-24 (.667) at the faceoff-X and scooped up six ground balls.
- Five different Friars scored two goals on the afternoon.
- Ryan Cornell made ten saves for the Cats.
