CROSS COUNTRY NOTEBOOK
Vermont cross country heads to Bethlehem, Pa. on Friday (Sept. 1) for the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh. The Catamounts will be competing in the Men's College Brown 8k and the Women's College Brown 6k at Goodman Campus Cross Country Course. The men's race begins at 12:15 p.m., followed by the women's race at 1 p.m. Vermont will also have runners in the Open Men's 8k (9:30 a.m.) and the Open Women's 6k (10:15 a.m.).Â

THE FIELD
Several America East foes will be competing in the College Brown races on Friday. The UVM men will compete against New Hampshire, NJIT and UMBC, among 20 other Division I schools. NJIT and UMBC will be competing in the women's race that boasts 28 Division I programs.

LEIGHTON'S 2021 PAUL SHORT
Jane Leighton logged a blistering 20:55.7 mark in the 6k at last year's Paul Short Run. The Amherst, N.H. native placed 39th against top-tier competition in the Gold race for her personal record. The Paul Short Run kickstarted a stretch that saw her win the Fall Foliage Invitational and secure All-Conference marks in the America East Championships in the following two meets.

HISTORY AT THE 2019 PAUL SHORT
In the Catamounts' 2019 trip to the Paul Short Run, John Benner ran a historic time for Vermont cross country. Benner posted a speedy pace of 24:12.8, which was the fastest 8k in program history.

LAST TIME OUT
Jane Leighton and
Andrew Crompton recorded speedy marks, and several Catamounts logged personal records in the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown last week in Boston. Leighton logged a 5k time of 18:12.5 to place 34th in her season debut.
Hope Tyska (19:23.6) logged a personal-best mark as the fourth Catamount to cross the finish line. Crompton was 36th in the men's 8k with a time of 25:01.0, which is the fastest mark by a UVM runner at the Coast-to-Coast.
Dillon Jensen (26:05.8) and
Jacob Tremblay (26:16.0) registered personal records in their scoring marks.

HOME IN THE FALL
The Catamounts will compete in the Green Mountain State for the second time this season when they host the Fall Foliage Invitational on Oct. 16 in St. Albans. Vermont will race against Bryant, NJIT, and Sacred Heart at Hard'Ack Recreation Area. The meet is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
