LOUDONVILLE, NY – Jackie House and Ella Church set Siena Swim Center records and first year Miranda Schuman earned her first collegiate victory as Vermont women's swimming and diving earned the 173-115 victory against Siena on the road on Sunday afternoon in their first meet of 2023. With the victory the Catamounts improved to 6-3 overall and 3-1 AE, while the Saints fell to 8-4 and 2-0 MAAC.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Vermont got the afternoon off to a hot start taking the top two spots in the 400 medley relay. The combination of Autumun Bullinger, Natalie Schlemmer, Halley Laney and Cailin Campbell took home first with a time of 4:03.24 while the team of Emma Wainwright, Lilly Acker, Abby Miller and Mina Poppas finished second for Vermont in a time of 4:04.79.
• The Catamounts continued their early success taking home the top three spots in the 1000 freestyle. Church had a dominant afternoon taking home first in the 1000 freestyle finishing a full 14 seconds ahead of the field. Emily Rocco took home second in a time of 10:52.41 while senior Molly Williams rounded out the top three with a finishing time of 10:57.44.
• Church also seized the Siena Swim Center record in the 500 freestyle finishing 15 seconds ahead of the field with a time of 5:06.09. Dayle Snively finished in second with a time of 5:21.74 while Rocco continued her strong afternoon rounding out the top three with a time of 5:21.76.
• House continued her strong 2022-23 campaign taking first in the 200 freestyle while setting the Siena Swim Center record (previously held by UVM alumna Kailey Gardner set in 2014) with a time of 1:53.86, almost five seconds ahead of the next closest swimmer. Laney came in third registering a time of 1:59.00.
• Vermont swept the top three spots of the 100 backstroke with Alexis Torykian finishing first in a time of 1:00.54 followed by Beth Hartog in 1:01.12, while Peyton Mcnulty was right behind finishing in 1:01.82.
• Schuman earned her first career collegiate victory in the 200 butterfly edging her teammate Kara Campbell finishing in a time of 2:12.62. K. Campbell finished in a time of 2:13.90 and Madison Supple registered a third place finish for the Catamounts finishing in 2:15.95.
• House also finished first in the 100 freestyle taking home the victory in a time of 52.79 while Cailin Campbell finished third in 55.72.
• Vermont raced through the 200 backstroke taking home the top three spots with Wainwright earning the victory in 2:09.64. Hartog finished in 2:10.84 and Torykian rounded out the top three with a time of 2:13.12.
• Nanna Atake finished third in the one-meter dive with a score of 158.25 and placed third in the three-meter dive with a score of 177.38.
• Natalie Schlemmer continued her strong season with a couple of first place finishes. She took home the 200 breaststroke finishing in 2:27.53, a full two seconds ahead of the next closest swimmer. Schlemmer also registered a victory in the 400 IM finishing in 4:39.30 while the next closest swimmer didn't come in until 4:48.16.
• Laney registered a first place finish in the 100 butterfly finishing in 59.35 almost two seconds ahead of the next closest swimmer.

 
UP NEXT
Following the Catamounts first meet of 2023 at Siena they will return home to Forbush Natatorium when they take on Rhode Island. That meet will be the Catamounts last home meet of the season and their Senior Day Presented by the Alumni Association.
 
SENIOR DAY
Vermont's final meet of the season at Forbush Natatorium will come on Saturday, January 21 against Rhode Island. The meet will be the Catamounts Senior Day Presented by The Alumni Association. The meet is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. ET and will be streamed live on AmericaEast.TV. The Senior Day recognition will take place prior to the start of the meet with the ceremony beginning at 10:20 a.m. ET.
