FIELD HOCKEY NOTEBOOK
Vermont (4-7, 1-2 AE) returns home after a weekend series in Massachusetts. The Catamounts will face Stanford (3-8, 0-4 AE) on Friday (Oct.6) before finishing the weekend with a visit from UC Davis (2-8, 1-2 AE) on Sunday. Both games will be streamed live on AmericaEast.TV.

PROMOTIONS
Friday's game will have free Carnival snacks with snow cones, cotton candy, and donuts being given out on the concourse. Sunday is the annual Rally Against Cancer Game, presented by Mascoma Bank. All fans are encouraged to wear lavender, the universal cancer awareness color, to the game. All Rally Against Cancer initiatives will benefit the UVM Cancer Center thanks to Mascoma Bank. LAST TIME OUT
Vermont faced No.17 UMass Lowell and No. 11 Boston College this past weekend and lost both games. The Catamounts battled hard with the River Hawks as they held their nationally ranked offense to a pair of goals and even outshot them in the second half. Sophia Lefranc scored the only goal for Vermont on the weekend, giving her six goals and 15 points on the season. The 15 points surpass her rookie campaign total of 13. On Sunday, the Catamounts battled with another ranked opponent and, except for a three-goal outburst late in the first half, hung around with the Eagles in the loss.Â
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Stanford enters the Friday matchup after a two-game series with Cal, where they split the series. The Cardinals were picked to finish third in the America East Preseason Poll after posting a 10-9 (4-4 AE) record in 2022. Gemma Townsend leads the team in scoring with five goals and 13 points, while Star Horlock and Haley Mossmer have recorded nine and seven points each. Goalkeepers Daisy Ford and Kendall Dowd have split responsibilities for the Cardinals this season. Ford has a 1-6 record in nine appearances and a 4.90 goals-against-average. Dowd, in nine appearances, is also 2-2 with a 3.35 goals against average.Â
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
UC Davis enters the Sunday matchup after winning against Stanford last Friday (Sept. 22). The Aggies will visit UAlbany before coming to Burlington. The Aggies were picked to finish eighth in the America East Preseason Poll after posting a 2-13 (1-7 AE) record in 2022. Lizzy Tedrow leads the team in scoring with five goals and 10 points, while Audrey Lee and Liselotte Koop have recorded six and four points each. Goalkeeper Sarah Lopez has a 2-8 record in 10 starts and a 3.74 goals-against-average. Lopez is also second in the nation in saves with 77.Â
SERIES HISTORY
The Catamounts and Cardinals have played seven times, with Stanford holding a 6-1 advantage in the series. The most recent matchup went the way of the Cardinals last year as they beat the Catamounts 2-1 in the playoffs. Vermont's only win in the series came last year when they beat Stanford 1-0 in overtime during the regular season. Vermont and UC Davis have met 17 times, with the Catamounts holding a 5-1 advantage in the series. The most recent matchup went the way of the Catamounts when they won 3-1 last year.Â
