MEN'S HOCKEY NOTEBOOK
After Wednesday's come from behind win at Maine the Vermont men's hockey team will continue play in the 38th annual Men's Hockey East Tournament Saturday afternoon from Agganis Arena as the Catamounts face the one-seed Boston University at 4:30 p.m. in the Quarterfinals. The contest will broadcast live on NESN with Eric Gallanty and Bob Deraney on the call, it will also be simulcast live on ESPN+. The voice of the Catamounts, Adam LaFleur, will broadcast all the action from the Handy Toyota Broadcast Booth on WVMT (FM 96.3 / AM 620). As always, the game will also be available on the Varsity Network App.

BACK IN THE QUARTERFINALS
Vermont won its first postseason game under Head Coach
Todd Woodcroft Wednesday defeating Maine 4-2 in the program's first-ever playoff game at Alfond Arena. It was Vermont's first postseason win since 2018 and propelled UVM to its first quarterfinal appearance since 2017.

CARRIERE NAMED HEA GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
Junior goaltender
Gabe Carriere was named Stop It Goaltending Goaltender of the Week by Hockey East on Monday. Carriere made 35 saves in Vermont's come from behind 3-2 win at New Hampshire last Thursday. On Wednesday, he made 28 saves in the Opening Round at Maine Carriere has nine wins on the season and he has made 30 or more saves seven times this year.

WALTHER LEADING THE WAY FOR VERMONT
Sophomore forward and Nashville Predators draft pick
Isak Walther leads the team in scoring this season with nine goals and 10 assists for 19 points. In Vermont's last 13 games Walther has six goals and three assists for eight points.

SPECIAL TEAMS LOOM LARGE

Todd Woodcroft, the Catamounts have given up just one power play goal against the Terriers. In six games against Boston University under the Woodcroft the Vermont penalty kill has been 14-for-15. In seven of Vermont's 11 wins this season they have kept their opponent from scoring on the man advantage.

SCOUTING BOSTON UNIVERSITY
After coming to Gutterson Fieldhouse on a season-high four-game losing streak the Terriers swept Vermont (5-3, 3-0) and swept a home-and-home set with Providence to clinch the program's 11th Hockey East Regular Season title.

BU first year Lane Hutson, a unanimous Hockey East First Team All-Star, was the Pro Ambitions Hockey East Rookie of the Week after he notched two goals and two assists against the Friars. Hutson is the first defenseman in Hockey East history to lead the league in conference scoring, totaling 34 points in 33 league games. He picked up one assist against the Catamounts in February.
SERIES HISTORY
Vermont is 24-57-10 all-time against the Terriers. Boston University has won the last eight contests in Catamount Country, including two this season but Vermont has had more success at Agganis Arena. Vermont split a weekend set at BU in January of 2022.Â
William Lemay notched his first career game-winning goal in overtime to defeat the Terriers 2-1 in the series opener. It was the first time in program history UVM defeated Boston University in overtime. BU claimed the second game of the series 4-0.

In the postseason Vermont is 2-5 all-time against the Terriers. Most recently Boston University defeated Vermont 5-4 in the 2009 Frozen Four. The year before that the Catamounts bested the Terriers 3-1 in the Hockey East Semifinals to advance to the program's only Hockey East Championship appearance. In 2007 the two clubs played a three-game quarterfinal set from Agganis Arena. UVM took game one 3-2 before falling 2-0 in game two and 3-2 in overtime in game three. The Terriers also eliminated Vermont in the 1975 ECAC Semifinals and the 1979 ECAC Quarterfinals.

CATAMOUNTS IN THE QUARTERFINALS
Vermont is 9-19 all-time in the Hockey East Quarterfinals. That includes a 7-16 mark on the road. In the quarterfinal round Vermont is 2-5 in overtime. Vermont's last semifinal appearance came in 2015. UVM dropped game one at Boston College 4-2, before bouncing back to win game two 3-1 and game three 1-0 behind a 36-save shutout from Brody Hoffman. Current volunteer assistant coach Brendan Bradley had a goal and an assist in UVM's game two win.

BASKETBALL SUCCESS CAN LEAD TO THE HEA SEMIFINALS?
This weekend the Vermont men's and women's basketball teams are both competing in the America East Championship game for the first time since 2010. In 2010 the Catamounts men's hockey team upset the top-seed UNH in a three-game series to advance to TD Garden for the second time in program history. On March 14, Jay Anctil scored the OT winner for UVM in game three on the same day both Catamounts basketball teams won America East. Vermont's Rob Madore posted back-to-back 1-0 shutouts of UNH to lead UVM to the Garden.

SIZE MATTERS
The Catamounts as a team have an average height of 6'1.6" which makes them the tallest team in college hockey. Boston University (6'0.9") is the only other team in Hockey East in the top-10. Vermont is also fourth in the NCAA in average weight at 191.0 pounds.

The Vermont roster is comprised of student-athletes from nine different countries. There is at least one player from Finland, Latvia, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Germany, Kazakhstan, Canada and the United States.
