The America East award recognizes student-athletes who have displayed academic and athletic excellence both this past season and throughout their careers. Nominees for the award must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and only one person can win the award for each sport.
Veretto wins the awards as the representative for America East men's basketball after carrying a 3.56 GPA while pursuing a Master's Degree in Accounting at UVM. He was named to the America East All-Academic Team in early March. Prior to transferring Vermont, Veretto graduated summa cum laude from UConn with a B.S. in Finance.
He is the first Catamount to receive the award since Luke Apfeld earned back-to-back honors in 2013 and 2014, and the sixth in program history.
The graduate student saw action in all 34 games this past season, earning starts in 26 of those contests. Veretto averaged 8.9 points on the season, including an 11.9 points-per-game clip in conference play. The forward led America East in field goal percentage (56.3%), effective field goal percentage (70.3%) and offensive efficiency rating (135.2).
Veretto received America East All-Championship honors this season, averaging 10.3 in the playoffs, including a 15-point outing in the title game against No. 2 UMass Lowell.
