The Vermont men's lacrosse team concludes the regular season Saturday afternoon with a trip south to take on UMBC.

LAST TIME OUT
The Catamounts won their sixth straight game and clinched a the No. 1 seed and hosting rights in the upcoming America East tournament berth with a 21-3 victory over UMass Lowell. UVM will host the four-team tournament for the second straight season May 4-6. Against the River Hawks,
David Closterman and
Brock Haley both scored five goals and dished out two assists for a Catamount offense that saw a season-high 15 players record points.

Sam Bowen all scored their first goals of the season in the victory.
ALL HALEY BROCK
For the fourth time this season senior attackman
Brock Haley was named America East Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Haley's seven-point game against UMass Lowell was his fourth with at least seven points and second with at least five goals this season. UVM is 6-0 in 2023 when Haley scores at least four points.
HE'S THE CLOSTERMAN
David Closterman eclipsed the 40-point mark last weekend with seven points against UMass Lowell and has reached the mark in three straight seasons. Closterman enters the weekend with 198 career points which ranks fourth all-time at UVM. He is one of only two players in program history with 100 career goals and 90 career assists.
FINDING THE GROOVE
The UVM defense has been stout in league play giving up a league-low 49 goals through six conference games. Vermont also leads the league in caused turnovers and ranks second in man-down percentage during league play.
ROOKIES ROLLING
The first-year trio of
Carson Boyle,
Charles Huntley and
Tristan Whitaker have hit their stride during league play. Whitaker (11G, 8A) and Boyle (16G, 3A) lead the group with 19 points through six games while Huntley has 11 (6G, 5A).
CATS VS. AMERICA EAST
The Cats are 19-2 in their last 21 regular season conference games including a perfect 6-0 last year and a 6-0 start this season.
SCOUTING THE RETRIEVERS
UMBC enters the weekend with an 8-4 overall record and 3-3 mark in league play. The Retrievers boast one of the top defensive units in the country – their 9.50 goals against average ranks fifth nationally and first the America East. Goalkeeper Jayson Tingue – who made his first career starts at Virtue Field in last season's America East Tournament – ranks sixth in the country with a 9.24 goals against average. Mateo Brown leads UMBC in scoring with 39 points on 34 goals and five assists Brett Baucia has chipped in 23 goals and 10 assists for 33 points. Zach Dudley is the primary faceoff specialist and enters the weekend with a .469 win percentage at X.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Saturday will be 21
st all-time meeting between UMBC and UVM with the former holding a 14-6 lead in the series. UVM has won four of the last six meetings including a 13-11 victory in last season's America East Championship game. Closterman and Haley each had a goal and two assists in that title-game triumph. Seven of the last nine meetings have been decided by three goals or less.
