UVM Athletics Announces Joint Hall of Fame Classes to be Inducted June 3

BURLINGTON, Vt. - The University of Vermont Athletic Hall of Fame has unveiled its joint Class of 2021 and 2022 inductees who will be formally inducted Saturday, June 3 at the UVM Alumni House. The group includes Franz Bernstein '12 (Nordic skiing), Jan Carlson '10 (track & field), Amy Glen '12 (Nordic skiing), Molly MacMillan '10 (swimming & diving), Kevan Miller '11 (hockey), Caitlin Patterson '12 (Nordic Skiing), Morgan Powers Rainville '12 (cross country/track & field) and Meg Ryley '11 (alpine skiing).
 
The eight honorees will be inducted at the 53rd UVM Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner presented by NFP on Saturday, June 3 at the UVM Alumni House's Silver Pavilion. Tickets are $75 and are now available at go.uvm.edu/hoftix. Franz Bernstein '12
Bernstein won the 2012 Wasson and Donnelly Rally Awards, as top male senior athlete and top scholar athlete as well. As a sophomore Bernstein became the first Catamount to win a national championship in the 20k freestyle since 1998. He also finished second in the 10k classic at the NCAAs and earned First-Team All-American honors in both disciplines. He was named the Male Collegiate Nordic Skier of the Year by Ski Racing Magazine, won five races on the EISA Circuit on the way to being named First-Team All-East. He finished third in the 20k Classic at the 2012 NCAA Skiing Championships helping guide the Catamounts to their sixth team national title in program history with a NCAA-record margin of victory. He won nine EISA races in his career and was named First Team All-East in all four seasons as a Catamount.
 
Jan Carlson '10
Won the 2010 New England Outdoor Championship title in the 100m dash. Set eight school records – four in indoor (55m dash, 60m dash, 200m dash, 4x400m relay) and four in outdoor (100m dash, 200m dash, 4x200m relay, pole vault). Won four America East Championships, two in the 55m dash at the 2006 and 2007 Indoor Championships, plus the 100m and 200m dashes in 2006 at the Outdoor Championships. Earned America East All-Conference honors seven times, including four times at the America East Outdoor Championships. Qualified for the NCAA Regionals in 100m and 200m dashes as a freshman in 2006. Named America East Top Indoor and Outdoor Rookie as a freshman in 2006. Received the conference's Indoor and Outdoor Coaches' Award as a sophomore, given to the individual who accumulates the most points in that year's conference championship meet. Still ranks in the top-10 at UVM in the indoor Pole Vault, indoor and outdoor long jump, indoor and outdoor triple jump, and the outdoor 400m.
 
Amy Glen '12
2012 Wasson Athletic Prize winner, given to top female scholar athlete. A transfer to UVM from Alaska Anchorage Glen skied in just three races as a sophomore but was extraordinarily consistent in her final two years for the Catamounts. She finished in the top-10 of the last 17 EISA races she competed in, earning five podium appearances. She was named First Team All-East in 2011 and 2012. She won the prestigious Elite 88 Award with the top GPA at the 2011 NCAA Skiing Championships, hosted in Stowe. She earned All-American honors in the Classic in 2011. In her final collegiate race, she won her first ever collegiate race at the 2012 NCAA Skiing Championships. She won the 15k Classic in a photo-finish defeating future Olympian Sophie Caldwell by .1 second. Glen's individual triumph was a part of UVM's historic 2012 NCAA championships. The Catamounts won their sixth team national title with a NCAA record margin of 161 points.
 
Molly MacMillan '10
Won the 2010 Semans Trophy and currently holds the school record in the 500-yard freestyle and 800-yard freestyle relay. Three-time America East winner of the 1650-yard freestyle, one of only four athletes to ever accomplish the milestone. Named America East Rookie of the Year – first UVM swimmer to receive the award. Earned America East All-Conference honors each season. Selected to the America East All-Academic Team three teams as a sophomore, junior, and senior. Set the America East record in the 800-yard relay as a junior and the ECAC record in the same event as a sophomore. Held eight school records at graduation, including four records at Forbush Natatorium. Voted as the team's Athlete of the Year as a freshman and senior. Received the Les Legget Award as a junior, honoring a team member who displayed leadership, loyalty, and sportsmanship. Served as a team captain as a senior.
 
Kevan Miller '11
Miller served as a team captain in his final two seasons in the green and gold. He played 144 career games for UVM totaling five goals and 25 assists for 30 points as a stay at home defenseman. He played a key role on two NCAA Tournament squads while at Vermont including the 2008-09 team that made the program's second-ever Frozen Four appearance. Miller played 352 career NHL games with the Boston Bruins over seven seasons. Following his freshman campaign received the 2007-08 UVM George Buzzell Rookie of the Year award, he was the only first year player to dress in all 39 games that season. Kevan and his wife Haley, and their two kids Remi and Wyatt live in Peoa, Utah. Kevan and his family moved to Utah full time after he retired in 2021. Kevan now works as a project manager for a construction company. 
 
Caitlin Patterson '12
2012 J. Edward Donnelly Award winner as top female senior student-athlete. Patterson capped her UVM career earning First Team All-American honors in both Nordic races at the 2012 NCAA Skiing Championships. She was second in the 5k Freestyle and fifth in the 15k Classic as UVM claimed its sixth NCAA Team Championship in program history with an NCAA record margin of victory. Patterson has represented the United States at each of the last two Winter Olympic games. In 2018, she won all four titles at the US Cross Country Skiing Championships, in total she is a 13x national champion. In 2012, she was named the Student Engineer of the Year by UVM. At the 2010 NCAA Skiing Championships she received the Elite 88 Award given to the student-athlete with the best GPA competing at the event. She was named First Team All-East in each season at Vermont and garnered All-American recognition each year as well. As a junior in 2011 she finished as the EISA points leader in both the classic and freestyle. In total over her career she won 13 EISA races.
 
Morgan Powers Rainville '12
Won the 2012 Semans Trophy (seniors who excelled athletically and demonstrated exceptional leadership). First-Team All-America East Conference six (6) times (3 Cross Country, 2 Outdoor Track & Field, 1 Indoor Track & Field). ECAC Indoor Track & Field Champion in the 5,000m. School Record in the Indoor 5,000m: 16:25.36. UVM Top-Ten in the 10,000m, 5,000m indoor, 5,000m outdoor, 3,000m indoor, mile indoor, 1500m outdoor. (Second only to Olympian Judi St. Hilaire in the 10,000m, 5,000m outdoor, and 3,000m indoor). Tied for highest finish for UVM Athlete at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships (13th in 10,000m in 2012). NCAA All-American (2nd Team in 2012). 2-time NCAA Qualifier (2011 and 2012 in the 10,000m). Olympic Trials "B" standard achieved in 2012 in the 10,000m. Cross Country Most Valuable Athlete in 2010 and 2011. All-Academic on numerous occasions. Morgan and her husband Joel (UVM '12) live in South Burlington, Vermont with their son, Paxton (age 5) and daughter, Hayden (age 2). Morgan works at Shelburne Farms, making cheddar cheese and managing the Creamery's Food Safety Plan.
 
Meg Ryley '11
2011 J. Edward Donnelly Award winner as top female senior student-athlete. Over her three seasons she won nine EISA races in her career and a total of 16 podium finishes. She was named First Team All-East in all three seasons. As a First Year she placed 4th in the slalom at the NCAA Championships earning All-American honors, she was named the Female Alpine Rookie of the Year. In 2010, she finished in the top-four of 11 of the 12 EISA alpine races. She was the GS and Slalom Champion in the EISA that season. At the 2010 NCAA Championships she earned All-American honors in the Giant Slalom. In her final year of eligibility, she was named to the USCSCA All-Academic Team and was again the EISA Slalom Champion. After UVM Meg attended Parsons The New School and received an AAS Degree in Interior Design. Meg and her husband Paul Peterson live in Toronto and have two children, Hank age 4 and Brooklyn age 6. Meg is an Interior Designer and operates her own business with projects in Toronto and surrounding areas.
