Game Notes: Vermont | Providence
VERMONT OUTLOOK
- The Catamounts most recently fell to Big Ten opponent, Minnesota, on the road 74-52 on Friday night.
- Anna Olson was Vermont's leading scorer with 14 points and four rebounds. Malia Lenz was the only other Catamount to score double digit numbers, earning 10 points on perfect shooting from the floor (3-3 FG, 2-2 3PT, 2-2 FT). Sarah Ericson notched a team-high five rebounds while Catherine Gilwee tallied a game-high six assists.
- Vermont welcomes Providence to Burlington holding a 3-3 all-time record vs the Friars. Prior to both program's meeting last season in Providence, RI (Providence won 57-47), the two team's hadn't played each other since 2012. The Catamounts have never dropped a game to Providence when playing at Patrick Gymnasium, coming out victorious 73-67 on November, 26, 2008 and 65-49 on November, 23, 2002.
- The Catamounts come into their matchup with Providence 6-21 all-time against Big East schools. Three of Vermont's six Big East victories have come against the Friars.
- The Catamounts bring back two of their top five scorers in Olson (11.6 ppg) and Keira Hanson (8.1 ppg). 2022 America East Rookie of the Year Catherine Gilwee returns after missing all last season with an injury.
- Olson was named to the Preseason All-Conference team for the fourth straight year after earning America East All-Defensive and Second Team All-Conference a year ago. The Monticello, Minn. native ranked second on the Catamounts, scoring 12.3 points per game during conference play and 11.6 overall.
- The Catamounts added seven newcomers to its roster for the 2024-25 campaign. Five first-years and two transfers make up the new group. Sarah Ericson (St. Thomas Aquinas) and Julia Blanck (Skidmore) are the transfers. The five newcomers are Emma Haan, Natalie Beaudoin, Piper Risdon, Devon Yarde, and Savanna Creal.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS
- Providence arrives in Burlingotn on the back of two wins having defeated Mercy and Columbia to open their season.
- Providence is led by graduate student Grace Efosa and fellow grad student Brynn Farrell, who each average a team-high 11 points per game. The Friars get the majority of their rebounds from senior Olivia Olsen, who averages nine rebounds per game.
- The Friars return all five of their leading scorers from a year ago, with leading scorers Olsen (13.7 ppg) and Efosa (12.7 ppg) back.
- The Friars also return their five leading rebounders, Olsen (8.5 RPG) and Efosa (5.5 rpg) leading Providence on the boards a year ago.
