Catamounts Travel to The Big Apple in a Non-Conference Clash Against Iona

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Vermont Men's Basketball travels to New Rochelle, New York for their fourth straight road game of the year facing off against the Iona Gaels. Action from Hynes Athletic Center kicks off Nov. 15 and tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. ET. 
 
BROADCAST INFORMATION
The non-conference clash will broadcast live on ESPN+. Fans can listen to the game for free on the Vermont Sports Network, from Learfield on The Game, which will air on 97.1 FM in Burlington, 105.9 FM in Plattsburgh, and 960 AM around the rest of the region. The radio broadcast is also available via the Varsity Network App with Brian McLaughlin on the call.

VERMONT OUTLOOK
  • TJ Long recorded his 1000th point against Merrimack last Saturday. On the season he has averaged 11.7 points per game.
  • TJ Hurley has led the Catamounts in scoring this season averaging 12 points per game.
  • First-year guard Sean Blake provided five assists and six rebounds in Vermont's last outing against Merrimack.
  • Vermont ranks 38th in the country in free throw percentage. The Catamounts have shot 78.8 percent from the free throw line this season.
  • The Catamounts were selected No. 1 in the America East Preseason Poll for the eighth time in the last nine seasons, and the tenth time in 14 seasons under John Becker. Vermont received eight of the nine first-place votes, and a score of 64 points. UMass Lowell was picked second in the poll, receiving the one remaining first-place votes and a score of 55 points.
  • Shamir Bogues received a Preseason All-Conference honor after earning America East Newcomer of the Year, All-Championship Team, All-Conference First Team, and All-Defensive Team in 2023-24.
  • TJ Long also received a Preseason All-Conference honor after landing on the America East All-Championship Team and All-Conference Third Team last year.

SCOUTING THE GAELS
  • Iona is led by Coach Tobin Anderson who enters his second season with the Gaels.
  • The Gaels are 0-3 this year, including a recent 58-64 loss to Delaware on Tuesday.
  • Iona ranks 4th in the country in offensive rebounds. They have averaged 19 offensive rebounds per game.
  • The Gaels were picked to finish 3rd this year in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • Last year, the Gaels had a (16-17) record and lost to Fairfield in the quarterfinals of the MAAC tournament.
  • Iona and Vermont matched up two years ago in Uncasville, CT.  The Gaels ended up winning that match 71-50.  
  • Senior guard Dejour Reaves was selected to the MAAC Preseason first-team. The Northern Colorado transfer has averaged 13.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3 assists this season.
  • The Gaels also had junior guard/forward James "Biggie" Patterson land on the MAAC Preseason second team. The Saint Tomas Aquinas transfer averaged 23.9 points and 8.5 rebounds a game last year.
