Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season at Towson

Vermont track and field head south to begin the 2024 outdoor season. They will compete in the Tiger Season Opener on Saturday (Mar. 16). Fans can follow the action at M&D Timing.

LAST TIME OUT
The Catamounts wrapped the indoor season two weeks ago when they competed at New England Championships and ECAC/IC4A Championships. The Vermont men finished the New England Championships in 12th place with 24 points, while the women finished in 12th with 19 points. Eight Catamounts had point-scoring finishes, including personal bests from Kayla Myers in the pentathlon and Alex Siaton breaking his 200-meter school record again, lowering his time to 21.60. Siaton also lowered his time in the 60 meters down to 6.88. Bridget Kosky added the 10th-longest triple jump in school history on the second day of the New England Championships.

Vermont also had a successful trip to ECAC/IC4A championships as Kenneth Morrissey, James Cilwik, and Elliot Hawley logged top-10 times in the 800. Morrissey's time of 1:51.88 was the third fastest in program history and earned him a spot in the finals, where he got sixth, which earned him ECAC all-conference honors for the 800. Clare Kelly was the top-finishing woman for the Catamounts, running a personal best 10:00.52 in the 3000 to finish 14th.

ALL-CONFERENCE OUTDOOR CATS
Three current Catamounts picked up All-Conference honors during the outdoor season in 2023: Myers, Siaton, and Sophie Christopher. Myers earned honors in the heptathlon with a third-place finish. Siaton earned honors in the 200 as he finished third, and Christopher also finished third in the 400 hurdles to earn honors.

FIRST TIME IN TOWSON
Saturday's trip to Towson will be the first time that Vermont has competed there, but it is not new territory, as the Catamounts have made plenty of trips just further south to UMBC. Emma Wapshare (Javelin), Abby Martin (Javelin), Erin Geib (Hammer and Discus), Cara Richardson (Shot Put), Adriana Rodriguez (Discus), and Carmella Thompson (Discus) make up the Vermont women competing. On the men's side, Kevin Mills and Aidan Peterson will compete in the javelin for the Catamounts.
