BOSTON – The Vermont men's and women's cross Indoor Track and Field teams opened the winter season with a pair of events in Boston, highlighted by Alex Beal's victory in the 3k at the Early Bird Invite.

"Really good opening weekend for our teams." said Head Coach Matt Belfield. "Highlights at New Balance include Alex Beal's victory in the 3K with a ridiculously big personal best. Siena was the top collegiate finisher in the 5K with a really well executed race. The men's 3K was strong as well, with many lifetime bests.At BU, Ryleigh Garrow had a career day with a big PR in the 60 hurdles moving up to 6th all-time in UVM history, while also high jumping a personal best. Inge Schmidt's 400 was another highlight for the women. James Cilwik opened his season with a strong Mile, while rookies Andres Santiago and Luke Miller were impressive in their debuts.The women throw well today with Cara's big PR earning a victory and three of our five weight throwers establishing new career best, led by Adriana's first 14-plus meter throw. Abby Kopeck's Catamount debut put her in the UVM top ten list in the PV too."
BU SHARON COLYEAR-DANVILLE
- Ryleigh Garrow got the day started for the Catamounts with a second place finish in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.89 for a personal best. She then tied for second in the high jump clearing 1.63 meters.
- Inge Schmidt (59.20) and Sophia Filali (59.49) both placed in the top five of the women's 400.
- In the 60-meter dash Sydney Greenidge placed third overall at 7.93
- Cara Richardson led the Catamount contingent in the shot-put with an 11.61 meter throw.
- Abby Kopek 3.35 meter pole vault was good enough for a tie for third place.
- In the women's long-jump Lola Silva finished second clearing 5.03 meters.
- Adriana Rodriguez and Erin Geib both placed top-five in the weighted throw.
- Freshman Andres Santiago finished third in the men's 60-meter hurdles in his debut at 8.71.
- Nate Wanger was the top Catamount in the 200 clocking a 22.56
- The defending America East champion in the mile, James Cilwik posted a 4:10.86 in his first event of the season
- Jake Voynar was the top Catamount long jumper at 6.21 meters.
NEW BALANCE EARLY BIRD INVITE
- Shane Jensen captured third in the 800 for the men at 2:01.22
- Leading a pack of Catamounts in the mile was sophomore, Avi Yagoda. Nate Swanson also finished in the top-10.
- Will Just (8:53.92) and Patrick Mozden (8:55.16) were back to back finishers in seventh and eighth in the 3000. Henry Nasse, Teddy Tremblay and Morgan McCuen were also tightly packed from 10th-12th.
- Daniel Brennan led the men in the 5k at 15:51.09.
- Alex Beal sped to a dominant victory in the 3000 for the women finishing in 9:58.47. She led teammates Caroline Deiss (10:14.82), Shawn Laverty (10:29.05), Hope Tyska (10:29.88) and Makenna Alden (10:33.65) all completing the top-five.
- In the women's 5k, Siena Stanley posted a 17:30.72 to finish second overall and lead all collegiately attached competitors.
- The women 4X400 was won by Vermont's team of Marguax Boyer, Katelyn Reuter, Elaina Mullins and Katie Anderson in 4:25.21.

After the pair of events to open the season the Catamounts will not compete again until January 10 when they travel to Hanover, NH for the Ivy vs America East challenge.
