BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont head coach
Matt Belfield announced captains for the 2024 men's and women's cross-country teams on Thursday.
Davis Cote,
Jameson Sparks, and
Jacob Tremblay will captain the men's cross-country team. Seniors
Isabelle Fleuette,
Clare Kelly,
Hope Tyska, and
Cara Van de Meulebroecke will serve as captains for the women's squad.

"Our captains this fall continue a long line of outstanding leadership for our teams, while also evolving the trajectory of our program cohesiveness higher and higher," said Belfield. "These seven student-athletes all provide unique character traits that add up to more than the sum of the parts. Coach Gingras and I are looking forward to where these captains can lead us this fall."
Cote returns as captain after a 2023 season in which he raced in all of Vermont's six races. He was among the top 15 in the Vermont Invitational, Equality Invitational, and Fall Foliage Invitational.
Sparks returned for his senior season after 2023, where he set personal bests in the 8k and 10k. He ran a personal best 25:35.0 at the America East Championships to finish 20th. He ran 32:13.9 to finish the 10k at the NCAA Northeast Regional. He was named to the America East Academic Honor Roll for the second straight year.
Tremblay rounds out the men's cross-country leadership group as he returns for his junior season. In his sophomore campaign, Tremblay ran in five races. He recorded two top-10 finishes in the Vermont Invitational and Equality Invitational last season.
Fleuette takes a leadership role for the first time in her career as a graduate student. She appeared in three races last season and set a personal 4k best of 17:31 in the Maribel Sanchez Souther Invite. She was named to the America East Honor Roll and named a Presidential Scholar athlete.
Clare Kelly returns for her senior season after a junior season in which she competed in every race. She was an all-conference finisher for the first time in her career, finishing 12th at the America East Championships. She also recorded a victory at the Equality Invitational and two top-10 finishes at both home meets. She was named to the America East Academic Honor Roll.
Hope Tyska takes on a leadership role for the first time as a senior. She recorded three top-15 finishes during her junior season in the Vermont Invitational, Equality Invitational, and Fall Foliage Invitational. She was named to the America East Academic Honor Roll for the third straight year.
Van de Meulebroecke returns for her senior season after competing in all six races and recording personal bests in the 5k (19:33.1) and 6k (23:12.2). She was named to the America East Academic Honor Roll for the second straight year.
The Catamounts open the season on Saturday, August 31, when they host the Vermont Invite at Hard'Ack Recreation Area in St. Albans.
