Women’s Hockey Set to Face #12 Boston College on the Road on Friday

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont women's hockey returns to action on Friday (Jan. 17) as the team gears up to face #12 Boston College on the road in Chestnut Hill, MA from the Conte Forum in the two programs first meeting against one another this season. Friday's game will be set for a 2 p.m. puck drop and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

BENT HOCKEY EAST DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
Graduate Student defender Kyla Bent was named the Hockey East Defender of the Week after posting a game-winning goal against BU earning Vermont its first win over the Terriers since 2022, while notching a plus three rating over the two game weekend series with Boston University. Bent is the second Catamount to be named Defender of the Week this season (Jane Gervais is the other).
 
VERMONT OUTLOOK
  • The Catamounts come off a home weekend series with now #14 ranked Boston University, splitting the series after falling in the first game 2-1, and winning the second game 3-2, the second victory Vermont's secured against a ranked opponent this season (1-0 win over #7 St. Lawrence on Oct. 18, 2024).
  • Over the weekend series with BU, Bent, Grace Nelles, Oona Havana, and Lara Beecher, all found the back of the net while five other Catamounts registered at least one assist. Beecher secured her 50th career point on Saturday (Jan. 11) vs Boston University.
  • Senior goaltender Sydney Correa made her second start of the season against BU on Saturday (Jan. 11), notching a .909 save percentage and stopping 20 of the 22 shots faced.  
  • Vermont is one of five Hockey East schools to have at least five defenders register at least one goal or more on the season so far, Bent, Natalie ZarconeAshley KokavecHailey Eikos, and Josie Hemp all have notched at least one goal this season. UNH, Holy Cross, Boston College, and Merrimack are the other four Hockey East schools.
  • UVM has been solid in the faceoff circle this season, ranking 14th in the Nation in faceoff win percentage with a 52.0% success rate, good for third in Hockey East. Evelyne Blais-Savoie is at the forefront of these wins for UVM, individually ranking seventh in the Nation and first in Hockey East with 276 total wins on the campaign.
  • Vermont is the only Hockey East school to have two centers in the conference in the top 10 for most faceoffs won this season. Blais-Savoie sits alone at the top with 276 while Rose-Marie Brochu is tied for 10th with 184 faceoff wins.
  • UVM is one of five Hockey East schools to have two or more defenders with six or more assists on the season so far, (Bent and Kokavec). Providence, Northeastern, BU and Merrimack are the other four Hockey East schools.
  • Beecher leads a team high 12 points on four goals and a team high eight assists. Beecher also leads the team in shots, totaling 71 so far this season.
  • Beecher's 71 shots is the fifth most in the Hockey East conference this season.
  • Blais-Savoie leads the team in goals, securing five on the campaign thus far to go along with three assists.
  • Kokavec sits alone in sixth place in Hockey East for most points as a defenseman, notching nine points on three goals and six assists. Her nine points leads all UVM blue liners.
  • Kokavec has tallied 53 shots on the season thus far, the second most shots by a defenseman in Hockey East. (Providence's Brooke Becker has the most as a defender, 59).
  • Vermont is one of three Hockey East schools to have two defenders with three or more goals, (Eikos and Kokavec). Providence and New Hampshire are the other two schools.
 
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
  • Boston College is 14-7-1 overall on the season and 11-4-1 in Hockey East play, currently sitting in second place in the conference.
  • The Eagles are 2-2-1 in their last five games, most recently falling 4-2 to Northeastern in the first round of The Beanpot Tournament. Prior to that matchup, BC earned back-to-back shutout victories, defeating Maine 5-0 and UNH 4-0. The Eagles have three total shutout wins on the season.
  • BC's single game with Vermont on Friday (Jan. 17) will be the teams fourth home game in their last five games. The Eagles possess an 8-3-1 home record and a 6-3-0 away record.
  • Boston College is anchored by sophomore forward Sammy Taber, who leads Hockey East in total points, having scored 25 points on 10 goals and 15 assists. Taber has scored 11 points in her las eight games, securing four multi-point games in that run.
  • BC is one of two Hockey East schools to have two skaters with 10+ goals on the season thus far, Taber owns 10 while fellow sophomore forward Julia Pellerin has a team and league high 11 goals on the season.
  • The Catamounts are 8-51-6 all-time vs Boston College, with the most recent success coming during last season (November 11, 2023) when Vermont defeated the Eagles 3-2 from Gutterson Fieldhouse.
  • Throughout the last 10 matchups between the Catamounts and the Eagles, Vermont holds a 5-2-3 record.
