Women’s Hockey Returns to Gutterson Fieldhouse on Friday vs Providence

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont women's hockey will return to action on Friday (Jan. 3), gearing up to host Providence from Gutterson Fieldhouse in both teams first game of the 2025 year. The Catamounts will conclude their season series with the Friars on Friday night with puck drop slated for 6 p.m. Friday's matchup will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

VERMONT OUTLOOK
  • Vermont most recently concluded the 2024 calendar year winning its lone game in December, defeating Merrimack 2-1 on the road. Hailey Eikos and Evelyne Blais-Savoie each tallied a goal for the Catamounts while Lara Beecher earned an assist on both goals. Jane Gervais anchored the Catamounts with a 23 save performance, earning her the Hockey East Defender of the Week honor.
  • Friday's game against Providence will be the final matchup of the season series between the two programs. The last time these two teams faced off was in the middle of November, seeing both games go the distance to a shootout. The Friars earned the extra conference point in the first game, but the Catamounts bounced back, winning in a shootout during the second matchup of the season series, earning the extra conference point.
  • The Catamounts hold an 11-13-1 all-time record in first games played of the new year, having won the last six straight games played in the start of a new calendar year.
  • UVM has been solid in the faceoff circle this season, ranking 11th in the Nation in faceoff win percentage with a 52.8% success rate, good for third in Hockey East. Blais-Savoie is at the forefront of these wins for UVM, individually ranking eighth in the Nation and first in Hockey East with 231 total wins on the campaign.
  • Eikos was named the Runner Up for Hockey East Defender of the Month for her production in the month of December. 
  • Beecher leads a team high 10 points on three goals and a team high seven assists. Beecher also leads the team in shots, totaling 56 so far this season.
  • Blais-Savoie leads the team in goals, securing five on the campaign thus far.
  • Ashley Kokavec is tied for seventh in Hockey East for most points as a defender, notching seven points on two goals and five assists. Her seven points leads all UVM blue liners.
 
 SCOUTING THE FRIARS
  • Providence is 7-8-3 overall on the season and 3-6-2 in Hockey East play.
  • The Friars are 1-2-2 in their last five matchups. Their most recent win came against Harvard at home (Nov. 23), winning 3-2 in overtime.
  • Providence holds a 6-3-2 home record and a 1-5-1 away record. The Friars lone win on the road was on October 11 when they beat Maine 3-2 in overtime.
  • The Friars are led by junior forward Reichen Kirchmair who has tallied a team high 19 points on a team high nine goals and eight assists, good for second most points by a skater in Hockey East so far this season.
  • Sophomore forward Audrey Knapp isn't far behind, notching 15 points on eight goals and seven assists.  
  • Providence has four skaters with double-digit points.
  • In the last 10 meetings between UVM and Providence from Burlington, Vt. at Gutterson Fieldhouse, Vermont holds a 6-4 record. Overall, the Catamounts are 23-37-7 all-time against the Friars.
