Men’s Basketball Makes Second Half Comeback to Defeat Binghamton 60-59 Thursday Evening

BURLNGTON, Vt. – Gus Yalden scored a team-high 15 points on Thursday evening as Vermont (10-7) defeated Binghamton (4-13) 60-59 from Patrick Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams went back and forth early, with the game tied at 11 after the 12-minute media timeout      
  • Jeremiah Quigley (13 first-half points) led Binghamton. offensively, as the Bearcats led by as many as seven.
  • A 13-point first half from Gus Yalden kept Vermont afloat as the Catamounts trailed 36-31 after the first half.
  • Sean Blake got into foul trouble and exited the game early in the second half
  • The Catamounts locked it down defensively to start the second half holding Binghamton to 3-12 from the field and 1-6 from 3
  • Vermont pulled back in front thanks to a 9-0 run that put them up 49-44, holding the visitors off the scoreboard for 4:20
  • After trailing 51-49, Binghamton rattled off an 8-0 run to go up 57-51 with 4:05 to go
  • Momo Nkugwa put the Catamounts within two with a hook layup, making it 57-55 with 3:08 to go.
  • Gus Yalden returned to the game in the final two minutes after missing significant time in the first half.
  • After Quigley hit two free throws to make it 59-58, Nkugwa answered with two free throws on the other end to give Vermont a 60-59 lead.
  • TJ Hurley sealed the game with a big block on Quigley to secure the one-point win.
  • Vermont's bench finished the game with 23 points.
