Dear Catamount Country,
I'm writing to share an exciting update on the UVM Multipurpose Facility Project. During its recent fall meeting, the UVM Board of Trustees authorized the next phase of work on this transformational project. This will include preparation and refinishing of the structural steel, creation of temporary swing spaces, procurement of long-lead materials and equipment, and site cleanup and preparation. We anticipate seeing activity around the site beginning later this fall.
As many of you know, the project includes an event center that will be the new home for UVM Men's and Women's Basketball, concerts and other campus and community events, expanded space for student fitness and wellness, and major renovations to Gutterson Fieldhouse, the iconic home of UVM Men's and Women's Hockey.
While the overall project timeline continues to evolve, our current expectation is that the events center and Gutterson Fieldhouse work will be completed in 2029, with the recreation and wellness work beginning as soon as possible once Patrick Gym becomes available.
There is a great deal of work to do and this is an important milestone for UVM and our department. I'm incredibly appreciative of the support and resilience shown by everyone in Catamount Country. Through all the uncertainty and challenges, our student-athletes have continued to make us proud by winning championships, excelling in the classroom and serving as leaders and role models in our community. At the same time, our loyal fans have continued to show up in support of our teams, providing the special energy and passion that have defined Catamount Country for generations. I can't wait for you to experience these new and improved facilities!
Fundraising for the project remains in full swing, and there are opportunities at a variety of giving levels for alumni, fans and friends to help bring this vision to life and be recognized in our new spaces. If you are interested in learning more about how you can support this project, please contact Wil Nelms, Director of Athletics Giving at the UVM Foundation (Wilson.Nelms@UVM.edu).
I look forward to sharing more updates in the coming weeks but wanted to make sure you knew about this important step forward. Thank you for your continued support of UVM Athletics as we work toward a bold new chapter for all of Catamount Country.
Go Cats Go!
