BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont Athletic Hall of Fame has unveiled its Class of 2026 inductees who will be formally inducted Friday, October 2 at the Dudley H. Davis Center on UVM Weekend. The group includes Roxanne Douville '14 (women's hockey), Rick Farnham '69 (special inductee), Dom Garand '16 (alpine skiing), Kari Greenbaum '95 (women's basketball), Stephen Kunken '69 (baseball), Barbara Poulin Lavoie '86 (field hockey and women's lacrosse) and Vanessa VanderZalm '16 (women's lacrosse).

Roxanne Douville '14
First player in program history to be named a First Team Hockey East All-Star (2013 and 2014). Also, a New England Hockey Writers Division I All-Star in 2013 and 2014. The all-time leader in games played and minutes played for a goaltender at Vermont. As a senior she had a 2.00 GAA, .931 save percentage and posted two shutouts on the way to setting the program record for wins with 14. She helped lead the Catamounts to their first-ever Division I playoff win in triple overtime against Maine making 50 saves. As a junior Douville led Hockey East making 824 saves, she made 30 or more saves 15 times that season. As a first year she became only the second Vermont player to be named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team. Roxanne lives in Swanton, VT with her husband Bud and their 5 children.
Rick Farnham '69
Farnham arrived at UVM as a first year in 1965 and played freshman football, then three years of varsity, and became an assistant coach in 1973 with the program after coaching at South Burlington High School for four years after graduation. The Brattleboro native served as an Assistant Athletic Director from 1975-1992. From 1992-2003, he served as the Director of Athletics at UVM, overseeing two skiing national championships, three women's basketball NCAA Tournament appearances, men's basketball's first-ever conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearance, and men's hockey reaching its first-ever Frozen Four in Cincinnati. In 2003, the baseball team was awarded the Boston Globe's Trophy for the top Division I team in New England.
From 1978-1982 he also served as Head Coach of Men's Lacrosse in the program's first seasons as a varsity program. On playing at Vermont, "It changed my whole life, no question about it. If I hadn't played college football, I wouldn't have got into what I got into what became my professional career! If you can pinpoint an event in your life that changed your whole thinking, you're fortunate." Farnham also played a pivotal role on the planning committee for two UVM Football reunions in partnership with the UVM Foundation.
Since retiring from UVM Athletics, he has been a popular teacher and speaker at the collegiate and high school level. In addition, he has volunteered his services to many civic organizations around the state, including a Lifetime Rotarian.
In 2007, he collaborated with the NCAA's Educational Service to assist in the writing and publication of "Building New Traditions: Hazing Prevention in College Athletics" which was distributed to their entire membership. Rick made presentations regarding UVM's educational initiatives on hazing at the NCAA, NACDA and ECAC's national and annual conventions as well as colleges and high school programs across the country. In 2000, he received the ECAC Josten's Male Athletic Administrator of the Year Award.
Since 2010 and continuing today, he has been an advisor to the Missisquoi Valley Union High School's Athletic Program for Athletic Coaching and Student-Athlete Leadership Education. Farnham has been a contributing force behind the Vermont Chapter of the National Football Foundation since its inception and in 2019 received the Association's Contribution to Amateur Athletics Award.
While Director, partnering with South Burlington's Police Department, UVM Athletics was nationally recognized for its participation in the "Kids and Cops D.A.R.E." program. Since retirement, Rick has taught a number of classes in the Sports Management programs at Vermont State University at Lyndon and at UVM.
Rick and his wife Diane '73, a retired elementary school teacher, reside in Williston, Vermont. Their son, Dan, his wife, Dianne, and children, Makayla and Calvin, live in Essex, Vermont while their daughter, Steph, her husband, Joe, and children, Noah and Haleigh, live in Sterling, New Jersey.
Dom Garand '16
The 2015 NCAA Slalom Champion as a senior he earned First Team All-American honors in Slalom, and Giant Slalom at the 2016 NCAA Championships, placing fourth in each race. He competed in four career NCAA Championship races and was a First Team All-American in all four. He won three EISA races in 2016 and finished on the podium seven times. He was named to the EISA All-East First Team in 2016, 2015 and 2014. He helped the Catamounts win four straight EISA Championships in his time in Burlington. As a first year he was named EISA Alpine Rookie of the Year and in 2016 he was the Giant Slalom overall points leader.
After graduating from UVM, Dom spent a winter in Vail coaching and racing before returning to his hometown of Ottawa to join his family's custom home-building business. Eager to expand his expertise, he later earned his Red Seal certification in Carpentry from Algonquin College.
Today, Dom works as a Site Supervisor with Cavanagh Construction, where he oversees the construction of a 10-unit residential development. At the same time, he's managing a project of his own—a three-unit residential build near downtown Ottawa—with plans to move into one of the units this November.
Kari Greenbaum '95
As a senior during the 1994-95 campaign, she led the Catamounts with 17.3 points per game, 166 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. She was the first player in program history to lead the team in all three categories in a single season. To this day it's only occurred five times in program history. First Team All-Conference during the 1994-95 campaign. She averaged over 10 points per game as a starter on the 1992-93 and 1993-94 women's basketball teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament both seasons. The 1992-93 team, where she averaged 11.0 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game went 28-1 and earned an 8-seed and a home game in the NCAA Tournament. Her 468 points during the 1994-95 campaign are the 19th most by a player in program history.
Kari is a master carpenter and currently resides in Westford with her life partner, Kaija Johnson, where they have owned and operated a Design-Build Residential construction company for the past two decades. In Kari's free time you can find her on her bike, on the trails or in the mountains with family and friends.
Stephen Kunken '69
The 1969 Wasson Athletic Prize recipient, given to the student-athlete who has demonstrated a high level of athletic achievement and has maintained the highest standard of academic scholarship. Stephen was named All-Yankee Conference Third Baseman in 1969. He led UVM Baseball in hitting (.330 average), hits (30) and RBIs (17) as a senior. He also had a team-high four triples and was named the Larry Gardner MVP Award recipient as a senior. In the final 16 games of the season, he batted at a .412 clip. Also, a standout fielder Kunken went 13 games without an error as UVM won 8 of their last 10 games to post a 13-9 record in the highly competitive Yankee Conference. In 1969 UVM was 10th in the NCAA in stolen bases, Kunken was tied for fourth on the team with five.
Steve's contributions to our university were seminal, participating in student body government, serving as the Class President during his junior and senior years while at UVM and gave the first Class President commencement address in 1969 and President of the Boulder Society his senior year; student Cynic baseball reporter for the Insider column during his sophomore year. Steve went on to pursue a career in law, which positioned him to serve as a Nassau County Criminal Defense Attorney for 53 years of active practice.
Stephen and his wife, Nicolette Pach, met at Boston College law school and on August 17, 2026, celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. They have two sons, Charlie and Jake, and four beautiful grandchildren. Stephen is now retired from the practice of law as well as teaching trial advocacy as an adjunct at Touro Law Center.
He also retired from playing baseball for more than 30 years in the men's senior baseball league and is playing golf and pickleball regularly. In June 2026, Steve was elected to his eighth four-year term as the Justice for the Village of Huntington Bay, Long Island, NY.
Barbara Poulin Lavoie '86
She was UVM's first BRINE All-American and is 2nd All-Time in career saves (578). She holds UVM school record for most saves in a season during the 1983 season with 269.
She was a part of the 1984 Team that held the record for longest win streak in program history. She played lacrosse at UVM with no prior experience and was voted Most Improved Player in 1983. She was named MVP as a Co-Captain in 1986. Her lacrosse records were set before the introduction of the larger women's lacrosse goalie stick pocket (in 1987), making it especially meaningful that they have stood the test of time.
In Field Hockey she is ninth all-time in saves with 406 and tied for sixth all-time with nine career shutouts. She is tied for second in program history with six shutouts in a single season in 1982. Her 10 wins in 1982 is tied for fifth most by a Catamount in a single season. During the 1985 campaign she was an Academic All-American, MVP and a Co-Captain.
She played on the United States National Women's Lacrosse Team and founded the South Burlington High School girl's lacrosse club while serving as a volunteer coach (1986–1987); the program became a varsity sport in 1988.
She was a member of South Burlington's High School inaugural Hall of Fame class inducted for Field Hockey, Basketball and Track & Field. She has also registered multiple Age-Group Podium finishes in Triathlon and Running Road Races.
She is self-employed and currently resides in Boulder and Breckenridge, Colorado, as well as Rye, New Hampshire. She is married to Blair Lavoie, and together they have one son, Ben Lavoie, age 28. Barb remains passionate about fitness and adventure. She enjoys competing in running races, exploring Europe on hiking treks, and traveling with her husband.
Vanessa VanderZalm '16
Vanessa VanderZalm was a three-year captain of the University of Vermont women's lacrosse team and started every game of her collegiate career. She finished as one of the team's top three scorers in all four seasons and left her mark on the program by finishing in the top five of the UVM record books in multiple categories, including fifth all-time in career points (193), fourth in goals (149), third in caused turnovers (109), second in ground balls (178), and third in draw controls (256). She earned America East First Team All-Conference honors in 2014 and 2015, Second Team All-Conference honors in 2016, and was named to the America East All-Rookie Team in 2013. That same year, she represented Team Canada at the Women's Lacrosse World Cup, helping the team win a silver medal. At the time of her graduation, Vanessa's class was tied for the second-most wins in program history, finishing with 36 victories over four seasons.
Today, Vanessa lives in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada with her partner, Malcolm McKinney, a University of Vermont hockey alumnus, and their two dogs, Rogue and Dak. After graduating from UVM, she founded an online golf e-commerce business, combining her passion for sports with entrepreneurship. Outside of work, she enjoys staying active through fitness competitions, endurance training, and golf, and is always looking for her next challenge.
