Burlington, Vt. – Eleni Stowell and Madeline Gardner recorded goals as Vermont (2-4-2) defeated Adelphi (3-1-1) 2-0 at home from Virtue Field on Tuesday evening.

"We had a bit of a slower start than we would have liked, but overall happy to move on with a win and shutout heading into conference. " said Head Coach Kristi Huizenga. "Adelphi is a team who will do well in a very competitive conference and we definitely had to work to earn our opportunities. Our backs and goalkeeping were very solid now in back to back games and we're starting to capitalize during the run of play more which has been helpful."
 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• In the 11th minute, Madeline Gardner crossed into the box to Aubrey Bough, who was called for a foul on an Adelphi player. 

• In the 17th minute, Gardner moved inside the box, freeing herself for a low shot that went between the keeper's legs, giving Vermont a 1-0 lead.  

• In the 22nd minute, Eleni Stowell's header narrowly missed to the left of the goal. 

• In the 40th minute, Sophia Kling made a strong save against an Adelphi attack. 

• The Catamounts led 1-0 at halftime.  

• Sydney Slusser took over as Vermont's goalkeeper to start the second half. 

• In the 63rd minute, Madeline Gardner's shot from inside the box just missed left of the post.  

• In the 65th minute, Élénore Blouin delivered a through cross to Eleni Stowell, who finished to the right of the goalkeeper to extend Vermont's lead to 2-0. 

• In the 76th minute, Kate Hawley received a cross from Reese Kingsbury but sent her shot just wide of the goal.
