PHILADELPHIA – Dylan Richard scored twice and Eamon McAdam stopped all 30 shots he faced as 20^th-ranked Penn State shut out Vermont 4-0 on Sunday afternoon in the fourth annual Philadelphia College Hockey Faceoff at the Wells Fargo Center. The Catamounts fell to 3-9-2 (2-4-2 HEA), while the Nittany Lions improved to 8-2-3 (0-0-0 Big Ten).

Hummelstown, Pennsylvania native Conor O'Neil came inches away from giving UVM the lead near the eight-minute mark of the first period. O'Neil took an interior pass from Jarrid Privitera in the slot and fired a wrist shot off McAdam's glove side post.
 
Vermont was called for its first penalty of the night shortly after, and Zach Saar quickly one-timed a low drive blocker side from the left point just four seconds into the Penn State man advantage.
 
Brendan Bradley, who grew up just north of Philadelphia, had the Catamounts' best chance in the middle frame. McAdam made a point-blank glove save as Bradley deked to his backhand at the edge of the crease after a centering pass from Kevin Irwin.
 
With 2:09 left in the second period, Richard wristed a left circle shot through traffic into the upper right corner for the Nittany Lions' second power play goal of the contest.
 
Chase Berger stuffed home a rebound 3:37 into the third for his team-best ninth goal of the year to stretch PSU's lead to 3-0. Richard added his second of the afternoon with 32 seconds left in regulation on a low wrister from the slot.
 
Mike Santaguida finished with a career-high 42 saves in the Vermont net and made at least 13 saves in each period. It marked the first 40-plus save effort by a UVM goaltender since Rob Madore registered 40 saves at Maine on Jan. 4, 2012.
