VERMONT WOMEN'S HOCKEY NOTEBOOKAfter 20 days off the Catamounts return to action this weekend as they close out the non-conference portion of their schedule with a contest at Union Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. On Monday night Vermont will face the Merrimack Warriors in the teams' first-ever meeting. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m. as the Catamounts begin a stretch of 14 straight Hockey East games to close out the regular season.

th annual Teddy Bear Toss sponsored by the Vermont Teddy Bear Company on Monday (Jan. 4) against Merrimack. Fans are asked to bring a bear to toss onto the ice during the second intermission. All bears will be donated to patients at local health centers by members of the Vermont men's and women's hockey teams this winter.
COLANG LEADING THE WAYSenior forward
Dayna Colang is leading the Catamounts in scoring for the second straight season. This year she six goals and seven assists for 13 points in 19 games. In her career at Vermont she now has 82 total points which ranks fourth all-time behind Allie Knowles (87),
Brittany Zuback (97), and
Amanda Pelkey (105).
SCORING FROM ALL CLASSESVermont's junior class has led the way in terms of offense, scoring 11 of the Catamounts 31 goals this season. But Vermont has had balanced scoring with four goals from its freshmen, seven from the sophomores, and six from the seniors.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTSUnion: The Dutchwomen are the only team left in Division I without a win this season with a record of 0-13-5. That being said Union has been in almost every game this year. In addition to its five ties Union has also dropped four one-goal games.
Senior forward Kathryn Tomaselli leads the team in scoring with four goals and three assists in 18 games.
Union's last series before breaking for the holiday was a two-game set at Maine. The Black Bears defeated Union 1-0 before tying the Dutchwomen 2-2. Elizabeth Otten and Alli Devens scored for Union in the second game.
The Catamounts are 20-0-0 all-time against Union. The Dutchwomen are the only Division I opponent Vermont has played and not lost to at least once. Last season

Madison Litchfield each picked up a shutout as Vermont beat Union twice 4-0 at home.
Merrimack: In the midst of their inaugural season the Warriors make their first-ever trip to Gutterson Fieldhouse on Monday night. So far this year Merrimack is 2-17-0, with its two wins coming against Colgate and New Hampshire in October. The Warriors are currently on an 11-game losing streak.
Freshman forward Paige Voight leads the Warriors in scoring with seven goals and seven assists for 14 points in 19 games this season. She was named the Hockey East Rookie of the Week on December 12 after a two goal performance at Providence. She is fifth amongst Hockey East rookies in scoring.
Freshman goaltender Samantha Ridgewell has seen the majority of action in net for the Warriors. She has a 2-10-0 record with a 3.27 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage.

KAYLA KRUK JOINS WOMEN'S HOCKEY THROUGH TEAM IMPACTThe women's hockey team officially drafted seven-year-old Shelburne, Vt. native Kayla Kruk through Team IMPACT. Kayla celebrated her draft day with the Catamounts last Saturday in a ceremony facilitated by the 501(c)(3) non-profit, Team IMPACT, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the power of team.

ALL ACROSS THE MAPThe Catamounts have players from 10 different states (Alaska, California, Florida, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Vermont), two Canadian provinces (Alberta and Ontario) and two other countries (Czech Republic and Finland). Vermont has four players from Ontario more than any other state or province.
3RD ANNUAL PACK THE GUT CHALLENGE PRESENTED BY THE WINDJAMMERThe Vermont women's hockey team will host the third annual "Pack the Gut Challenge Presented by The Windjammer" on Friday January 29 as they face Connecticut.
The goal this is to break the single game Hockey East attendance record of 2,028 fans, set by Vermont in 2013, and support the local Meals on Wheels organization.
