BURLINGTON, Vt. – Senior
Anne-Marie Farmer and sophomore
Olivia Hurd have been named captains of the Vermont field hockey team for the 2016 season. Head coach
Kate Pfeifer made the announcement on Monday.
"We have a leadership group made up of six players and the three coaches, who collaborate on issues that come up and ideas around how to best manage the team," Pfeifer said. "From that group, Anne-Marie and Olivia have emerged as our field captains. I'm excited to see the impact of their leadership this season."
Farmer will serve as a captain after being named an assistant captain last season. She started every game in 2015, ultimately finishing tied for the team lead with seven goals. The South Burlington, Vermont native is a two-time member of the America East Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll and also was named to the NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad in 2014.
"Anne-Marie has improved her game every single day since I met her, receiving coaching points and making positive changes to truly get better every day," Pfeifer added.
Hurd, a Bolton, Massachusetts native, earned starts in each of Vermont's first two matches this past weekend and appeared in every game as a freshman, starting all but one contest. She has notched two defensive saves and last season garnered America East Commissioner's Honor Roll laurels.
"Olivia is someone who exemplifies what it means to be a good teammate," said Pfeifer. "Her work ethic and consistency on the field and in the classroom help set the right tone for the group."
The Catamounts are off to a 2-0 start after picking up wins on Friday and Sunday against Central Michigan and La Salle, respectively. The team returns to action on Friday, Sept. 2 with a road contest at Providence at 6 p.m.
