RALLY AGAINST CANCER
The conference home opener is the annual Rally Against Cancer Game presented by Otter Creek Awnings and Vermont Custom Closets. The team will wear pink socks and fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game.
ABOUT VERMONT
The Catamounts started to heat up in mid-September with three straight wins, but suffered a pair of tough 1-0 defeats to Dartmouth and Maine.
Julia Smith is having a solid rookie campaign for Vermont as she leads all freshmen in the America East with five goals and ranks second with 10 points.
Coco Speckmaier is one of the top netminders in the league. Speckmaier is tied for third with three shutouts, fourth with 51 saves, and sixth with a 1.07 goals-against average.
HALFTIME SHOW
Through the first 10 games, UVM has yet to fall into the loss column after holding a lead at halftime. Vermont is 4-0-1 when the team goes into the locker room with the advantage. The Catamounts have showcased balanced scoring this year with seven first-half goals and six second-half goals.
SECONDS? YES, PLEASE!
Vermont has won the second conference game on the schedule each of the past three seasons. UVM rebounded a year ago with a 2-1 win at UMBC, topped UMass Lowell 3-1 in the first-ever series meeting in 2013, and came away with a 2-1 double overtime victory in 2012 at Stony Brook.
SCOUTING UMASS LOWELL
UMass Lowell (3-5-2, 1-1-0) opened conference play on Monday with a 1-0 shutout win against Albany, snapping a three-game skid. Jaymee Luke found the back of the net with 30 seconds remaining for the game-winning goal. Luke is a part of a balanced scoring attack for UMass Lowell as five players have recorded a goal this season. Rachael Morrier leads the squad with a pair of goals. UMass Lowell played its second game of a three-game week on Thursday and fell to Maine 1-0, handing the River Hawks their third 1-0 defeat in the last five games.
SERIES HISTORY
The series has only seen three meetings since UMass Lowell moved to the NCAA Division I level with the River Hawks holding a slight 2-1 advantage. UVM took the first meeting in 2013 but fell the following year with a 2-1 double overtime heartbreaker. In last year's contest, Vermont could not recover from three first-half scores by UMass Lowell in a 3-1 defeat.
WHO'S NEXT
Vermont starts a two-game America East road trip next week. The Catamounts travel to Stony Brook on Thursday (Oct. 6) and New Hampshire on Sunday (Oct. 9). Free live video is available for both games in HD via AmericaEast.TV.
