WHAT A START!
Vermont is off to its second straight 5-1 start and sixth overall in the history of the program - 2017-18, 2016-17, 2010-11, 1996-97, 1994-95, and 1991-92.
NCAA'S TOUGHEST SCHEDULES
According to NCAA rankings, the Catamounts have played the ninth toughest Division I schedule to date. UVM's .739 winning percentage by its opponents is the second highest for a New England program behind only Rhode Island (.864).
SCOUTING RICHMOND
The Spiders have stumbled through the early going with a 1-5 record, but have played a competitive schedule. The docket has included a meeting with 12th-ranked Cincinnati in the Cayman Islands Classic and an unbeaten Georgetown last Saturday. Grant Golden was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Monday after averaging 19.5 points and 6.3 rebounds last week. The redshirt freshman is posting a team-best 16.2 points per game and the 6-10 big man is leading Richmond with a 53.4% field goal percentage this season. Sophomore guard De'Monte Buckingham, the reigning A-10 Rookie of the Year, follows with a 14.7 scoring average. Buckingham is coming off a career-high 28 points against the Hoyas. He garnered A-10 Preseason Second Team All-Conference honors and was named to the Julius Erving Award Watch List, presented to the nation's top small forward.
VERMONT VS. THE A-10
Wednesday night's non-conference duel is the first meeting between UVM and Richmond, but Vermont has reached the win column 29 times against current members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. The last victory was against George Washington (W, 83-72) on Dec. 27, 2008 at the Rainbow Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Catamounts will try to capture their first true road win over an A-10 rival since beating Rhode Island 77-76 on Feb. 26, 1976.
