SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Boston College has lost three games in a row, including each of the Eagles' two games in the Beanpot to BU and Northeastern. BC is ranked 11th in both national polls and enters the weekend tied for 13th in the Pairwise Rankings for the NCAA Tournament. Senior Matthew Gaudreau leads the team with 21 assists and 28 points on the year, while sophomore Colin White and senior Austin Cangelosi are tied atop the squad with 14 goals apiece.
Freshman goalie Joseph Woll has started 26 of the team's 32 games with a 2.61 goals against average and .915 save percentage. The all-time winningest coach in college hockey history Jerry York (1,030 career wins) is in his 23rd year at Boston College. Last year, BC made the NCAA Frozen Four before losing to Quinnipiac in the national semifinal.Â
SERIES HISTORY
Friday marks the 63rd all-time meeting in the series and the ninth meeting at Kelley Rink in the last three seasons. Since the start of the 2014-15 season, Vermont has won four of its eight games against the Eagles in Chestnut Hill. Prior to a 3-2 regular season overtime victory on Feb. 13, 2015, the Catamounts hadn't won at Conte Forum since Nov. 15, 2009.
QUARTERFINAL REMATCH
The schools have met in the last two Hockey East Quarterfinals in Chestnut Hill. BC's Ryan Fitzgerald won last year's series in the decisive Game 3 with a deflected wrist shot midway through the first overtime. In 2015,
Jarrid Privitera scored the lone goal three minutes into the third period of Game 3 to send UVM to TD Garden.
SPLIT WITH UNH
Vermont split a Hockey East series with its longest standing rival New Hampshire last weekend at sold out Gutterson Fieldhouse. Anthony Wyse fluttered a point shot off a Catamount body eight and a half minutes into the third period to break a 2-2 deadlock and UNH held on for a 4-2 win in the series opener.
Anthony Petruzzelli and
Brian Bowen scored less than 90 seconds apart early in the second period to give UVM a 2-0 cushion.
Mario Puskarich scored a pair of goals on Saturday, including his 50th career goal, as UVM snapped its four-game winless streak with a 5-3 win. Petruzzelli skated in his 100th career game and posted a goal and an assist, while
Stefanos Lekkas stopped 22 shots for his 15th win in net. Vermont moved to 6-2-2 in its last 10 meetings with their rivals from Durham.
SUCCESS AT THE DOT
Since the start of February, Vermont owns the fifth-best faceoff percentage in the country at 56.1% (BC ranks second at 59.8%).
Derek Lodermeier has won roughly 65% of his draws this month (50-for-77) after going 32-12 at the dot last weekend against UNH.
Drew Best won 13 of his 19 faceoffs against the Wildcats, while
Craig Puffer went 12-2 in the second game of the weekend series.
WHO'S NEXT
Next weekend, Vermont closes the regular season in Burlington against the Merrimack Warriors in a two-game series. Saturday (Feb. 25) is Senior Night at Gutterson Fieldhouse at 7:05 p.m. as the Catamounts honor the 10 members of their senior class before the game. Tickets are available by logging on toÂ
