CATAMOUNTS RECAP
Ben French and
Cam Milligan each scored twice, but Vermont could not overcome a five-goal Providence run in the middle two quarters as the Catamounts fell 8-6 on Saturday at Chapey Field in Providence, Rhode Island. Freshman
Nick Washuta made nine saves on the day for the Catamounts and Providence's Tate Boyce made eight stops.
SCOUTING DARTMOUTH
The Big Green are currently 0-2 at this early juncture of the season after setbacks against Canisius (Feb. 18) and Sacred Heart (Feb. 25), the latter of whom Vermont will meet on March 11. In the Sacred Heart game, Joe Saggese scored four goals and Bryce Jurk had a hat trick of his own but the Pioneers responded from an early Dartmouth goal and never looked back.
As a team the Big Green are averaging an even eight goals per game while opponents have posted a figure of 14. Much of the offense runs through Jack Korzelius (6-1-7) while Wiley Osborne (4-2-6) trails Korzelius closely. Tucker Brown (10-for-25) and Kyle Clampitt (6-for-13) have spent the majority of time on faceoffs. In goal George Christopher holds down the fort and is averaging 14 saves per game.
Stony Brook alumnus Brendan Callahan is early in his third season in Hanover. Prior to arriving in New England, Callahan served a seven-year stint as an assistant and defensive coordinator at Lehigh. He served as captain while playing at Stony Brook and graduated in 2007 with a degree in health care management.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Historically the Big Green have had Vermont's number, although UVM has emerged on top in two of the last three meetings. In the most recent tilt on March 29, 2016,
James Barlow had six points and
Dawes Milchling added a pair of goals, while
Jon Kaplan made 12 saves to guide the Catamounts to a 15-9 win in the first-ever men's lacrosse night game at Virtue Field.
Vermont has not yet picked up a win in Hanover, but nearly eked out a 'W' in late March 2015. Korzelius spoiled the Catamounts' hopes, burying a shot with 3:24 remaining in regulation to lift Dartmouth to a 16-15 win.
This series began in 1988 and since then, the teams have crossed paths each year except 2001, 2004 and 2005.
IN THE NATIONAL CONVERSATION
Cam Milligan has emerged as one of several key components in the Vermont attack, stringing together 19 points this season on 10 goals and nine assists. In recording a point in each of his 36 career games as a Catamount, the Peterborough, Ontario native sits in a tie for 11th nationally among all active point streaks. Since his run began on Feb. 7, 2015, he has registered a total of 145 points on 72 goals and 75 assists.
He also has scored a goal in each of his last 11 games, a streak that is tied for ninth in the country.
FRENCH COLLECTS AMERICA EAST WEEKLY HONOR
Ben French's America East Rookie of the Week nod on February 20 marked the attackman's first time receiving the honor as well as the second time in three weeks that Vermont was represented in the conference's weekly laurels. Following the Mercer win on February 4, Milligan picked up mention from the league as the Offensive Player of the Week, while
Nick Washuta completed the awards sweep as both the Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week selection.
FRESH FACES
A total of six Catamounts have made their collegiate debut in UVM's first four contests.
Charlie Erdmann, French,
Rob Hudson,
Riley Nestlerode,
Matt Sealy and
Nick Washuta each saw game action for the first time.
AMERICA EAST REVEALS PRESEASON POLL
The America East Conference on January 24 announced its preseason coaches poll, predicting Vermont to finish third and return to the conference tournament after collecting 27 points. Albany was the unanimous first-place pick with 36 points, while Hartford (28) and Stony Brook (23) were slotted on either side of the Catamounts. Rounding out the poll at five through seven were UMBC (15), UMass Lowell (11) and Binghamton (7).

WELCOME TO VERMONT, COACH
The seventh head coach in program history,
Chris Feifs arrives in Burlington following a seven-year run at North Carolina as defensive coordinator and faceoff coach. During his time in Chapel Hill, the Tar Heels captured the 2016 NCAA National Championship and were ACC regular season co-champions on two occasions. In 2013, UNC claimed the conference title.
He also spent two seasons in an assistant coaching capacity at VMI and played his collegiate lacrosse at Maryland, becoming the first scholarship athlete from North Carolina to play lacrosse for the Terrapins.
FEIFS ANNOUNCES COACHING STAFF
Jake Bernhardt and
Chris Miller have also come to the Green Mountain State as assistant coaches under Feifs, while
Brian Kavanagh has joined the Catamounts as a volunteer assistant. Bernhardt plays professionally for the Ohio Machine of Major League Lacrosse and scored 14 goals last season en route to an appearance in the MLL Championship Game. Miller was most recently associate head coach at Washington College (Maryland) and, from 2008-10, worked with Feifs as an assistant at VMI.
A 2014 graduate of Princeton and former goalie with the Tigers, Kavanagh made eight appearances in his career and was part of a 2012 team that reached the Ivy League Championship and ultimately punched a ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
