CATAMOUNTS RECAP
Cam Milligan and
Dawes Milchling each registered hat tricks and
Nick Washuta racked up 16 saves as Vermont withstood a late surge to take home a 12-11 win from UMass Lowell last Saturday (April 8). The Catamounts trailed for only 2:38 on the day and also were witness to
Liam Rischmann's first collegiate multi-goal game. Washuta's stat line included seven saves in the fourth quarter to preserve the win.
Â
Charlie Erdmann held down the fort on faceoffs, going 17-for-26 (65.4 percent) at the X. He had tremendous success particularly in the first 30 minutes, going 10-of-12 before halftime.
Â
SCOUTING STONY BROOK
The Seawolves currently share fourth place in America East with Hartford after falling in their last two matchups. The squad paused conference play last Saturday (April 8) against No. 13 Princeton, being dealt a 13-11 setback. Albany, then ranked eighth nationally, also took down Stony Brook by a 19-11 margin on April 1.
Â
Senior Alex Corpolongo is currently riding the nation's second-longest active goal scoring streak at 28 games. He has put home 61 shots in that span, which dates back to April 30, 2015. Similarly, Ryan Bitzer has recorded a point in 31 straight games which is 12th among active streaks in Division I. Of late, freshman Michael Bollinger has seen time between the posts, having received the starting nod in each of Stony Brook's last three games.
Â
Head coach Jim Nagle is in his sixth season at Stony Brook after 10 seasons at Colgate in the same position. He played collegiate lacrosse at Loyola Maryland, graduating in 1992.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Historically Stony Brook has had the Catamounts' number since the first meeting of the sides in 2002. Since that season, UVM has crossed paths each year with its Long Island rival, including three additional clashes in the postseason (2010, 2015, 2016). Last season by way of Stony Brook, the Catamounts secured their first-ever win in an America East Tournament game. It was also the program's first win over the Seawolves. UVM was faced with two different fourth quarter deficits before
Cam Milligan scored the game-winning goal with 3:26 left in regulation, helping the club to a 10-9 victory.
Â
MILLIGAN, WASHUTA LAUDED BY AMERICA EAST
Both Milligan as well as
Nick Washuta collected weekly awards from America East this past Monday (April 10). Milligan shared Offensive Player of the Week recognition with Albany's Connor Fields, while Washuta was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week. Milligan has registered a point in all but one game during his Catamount career. In the UMass Lowell win, Washuta posted a .593 save percentage, a mark that exceeded all other America East goalies playing on Saturday.

CATS IN THE RECORD BOOK
Cam Milligan enters Saturday's home finale sitting just one point short of Geoff Worley '12 for eighth in program history in career points. Worley amassed 165 with the Catamounts, while Karl Langmuir '89 tallied 169 to hold down seventh in the record book.
Â
Milligan's efforts are particularly impressive given that he arrived at Vermont as a transfer from 2015 in Towson and has posted these marks in just three seasons.
Â
I TIP MY HAT TO YOU, SIR
Five different Catamounts have accounted for a total of 13 hat tricks throughout the 2017 season. The group includes

Â
TURN DOWN FOR WHAT?
Junior defenseman
James Leary has caused 18 opponent turnovers this season (1.64/game) and leads America East in the per game column. His single-season career-high in that category is 22, set during his sophomore season in 2016.
Â
PLANNING WITH GOALS IN MIND
In UVM's April 1 matchup with Hartford, freshmen
Matt Palmer and
Liam Rischmann broke into the goal column, inking the box score in the first and second quarters, respectively. Additionally, senior defensemen
Ben Cox scored for the first time this season.
Â
BENNIE AND THE JETS
Ben French has scored a team-high 22 goals after finding the cage in seven games during his first season in Burlington. That included five-goal performances against both Holy Cross (Feb. 18) and Dartmouth (Feb. 28) and has helped the Toronto, Ontario product post an average of an even two goals per game. That statistic is tied for 11th in the nation among all freshmen and leads all America East rookies.

WELCOME TO VERMONT, COACH
The seventh head coach in program history,
Chris Feifs arrives in Burlington following a seven-year run at North Carolina as defensive coordinator and faceoff coach. During his time in Chapel Hill, the Tar Heels captured the 2016 NCAA National Championship and were ACC regular season co-champions on two occasions. In 2013, UNC claimed the conference title.
Â
He also spent two seasons in an assistant coaching capacity at VMI and played his collegiate lacrosse at Maryland, becoming the first scholarship athlete from North Carolina to play lacrosse for the Terrapins.
Â
FEIFS ANNOUNCES COACHING STAFF
Jake Bernhardt and
Chris Miller have also come to the Green Mountain State as assistant coaches under Feifs, while
Brian Kavanagh has joined the Catamounts as a volunteer assistant. Bernhardt plays professionally for the Ohio Machine of Major League Lacrosse and scored 14 goals last season en route to an appearance in the MLL Championship Game. Miller was most recently associate head coach at Washington College (Maryland) and, from 2008-10, worked with Feifs as an assistant at VMI.
Â
A 2014 graduate of Princeton and former goalie with the Tigers, Kavanagh made eight appearances in his career and was part of a 2012 team that reached the Ivy League Championship and ultimately punched a ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
Â

After a bye next weekend, the Catamounts will close out the regular season with a trip to UMBC. That game is set for noon on Saturday, April 29.
