DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Former UVM track standout, Steve Phelps '85, was recently named NASCAR President.
Phelps enters his 14th season with NASCAR where he has played a significant role negotiating key partnerships and other initiatives for the popular racing platform. Prior to his career with NASCAR, Phelps spent time with the National Football League and Wasserman in senior leadership roles.
The newly promoted NASCAR President has also been featured on the CBS reality series "Undercover Boss" which aired in October of 2010.
A native of Vermont, Phelps earned his bachelor's degree in economics from UVM while running indoor and outdoor track and field for the Catamounts from 1981-85.
In his senior season, Phelps set a school record 1:53.42 in the 800m at the Dartmouth Relay, a time that remains sixth-best today. He also qualified and finished fourth at the 1985 Eastern Championships in the 800m.
Phelps will assume responsibility over competition and business operations for NASCAR.
