The University of Vermont track & field program kicks off its third meet of the season Saturday (Jan. 19) when they make the short trip down Route 7 for the Middlebury Winterfell, hosted by the Middlebury College Panthers at Virtue Field House. America East foes UAlbany will also be competing at the annual meet that kicks off at 11 a.m.

The Vermont men finished second and the women third at last year's Middlebury Winterfell.
Morgan Ferland,
Will Lynch,
Taylor Kracher, and
Justin Liechty all won events for the Catamounts. Ferland's weight throw of 14.72 meters sealed a victory in that event, followed by a second-place finish in the shot put. In the high jump, Lynch took first with a height of 1.93 meters. Kracher won the 600m dash with a time of 1:22.65 and Liechty secured the 200m dash in 22.46 seconds to round out the Catamount winners.
A LOOK AT THE HOSTS
The Middlebury College men and women both took second place in the annual Middlebury Winter Classic last weekend at Virtue Field House. Emily Bulczynski won the 800m race and Kreager Taber earned the pole vault victory to headline the Panthers' women. Minhaj Rahman set a school record in the 35-pound weight throw and Jimmy Martinez won the 200m dash for the Middlebury men. In last year's Division III New England Championship, the women finished third and the men placed fourth at the indoor competition.

SCOUTING UALBANY
UAlbany competed in the 16th Annual Great Danes Classic last weekend in Staten Island, New York. Cara Sherman took first in the women's mile, Kiyah Owens won the women's 400m dash, and Devon Willis won the triple jump for individual victories by Great Danes. The men's 4x400m relay team of Jan Gutierrez Almadina, Garfield Napier, Matthew LeLiever, and Harmodio Cruz III finished in 3:17.39 to win the event. The UAlbany women won the America East Indoor Championship last season while the men finished second in the conference.

NEIGHBORS TO THE NORTH
The McGill men's and women's track & field teams will also be competing in the Middlebury Winterfell. Members of Canadian University Sports, the Redmen (men) and Martlets (women) competed last week at the Sherbrooke Open. Freshmen Jack Crosby and Alex Stathis won the 1000m and 60m hurdles, respectively, for the Redmen who took second place at the meet. Lauren Wood won the triple jump for the Martlets who finished fourth in the Open. Â

50TH DARTMOUTH RELAYS
The UVM men and women both finished third at the 50th Dartmouth Relays Sunday (Jan. 13) in Hanover, New Hampshire. The Catamounts earned a pair of victories in relay events and individual events. In the 4x800m relay,

Caroline O'Shea, and
Jane Leighton raced to a time of 9:30.91 to win by 22.2 seconds. Trumble also added a victory in the mile with a time of 4:57.19.

NEW SCHOOL RECORD
Will Juniper,
Justin Liechty,
Alex Parasky, and
Seth Beard broke the school record in the 4x200m relay at the 50th Dartmouth Relays with a time of 1:30.75. They clipped the previous school record of 1:31.74, but trailed the winning team by 1.35 seconds for a runner-up finish.

INDOOR SEASON AT A GLANCE
The Catamounts continue the indoor season at the Penn State National Invite (Jan. 25-26) and at UNH (Jan. 26) to close out the first month of 2019. February brings a stretch of big meets with the New England Championships (Feb. 1-2) and the Valentine Invite (Feb. 8-9). In total, the men and women will compete in nine meets this year before the America East Championship at the end of February.

NORTH COUNTRY ALL-COMERS
Another addition to the indoor season is the North Country All-Comers, hosted by the Catamounts at Gardner-Collins Indoor Track. The only home meet for Vermont takes place Sunday (Feb. 10) at 12 p.m. UVM last hosted an indoor meet in 2016.
