FIELD HOCKEY NOTEBOOK
The Vermont Catamounts (4-6, 0-1 AE) continue America East conference play Friday at UMass Lowell (5-5, 0-1 AE) before taking on Patriot League foe Holy Cross (5-5, 2-1 Patriot) in Worcester Sunday.
 
Friday's game is slated to be played under the lights with a 6:30 p.m. start at Cushing Field. The game will stream on ESPN+ with live stats from UMass Lowell Athletics. Sunday's contest will begin at 4 p.m. and stream for free on the Patriot League Network with live stats from Holy Cross Athletics.

SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS
Both teams are playing their second conference match on Friday. UMass Lowell holds a 5-5 overall record and an 0-1 conference record thus far. UMass Lowell's first America East match last weekend at Maine resulted in a 1-0 loss.
 
Senior goalie Eva Berkhout has played a majority the minutes this season for the River Hawks.  She holds a 1.94 goals against average and a .630 save percentage. The top scorers for the River Hawks are freshman Sofie Knook with 10 points and five goals, and sophomore Jenna Berger, who has three goals and 11 points.
 
The River Hawks finished the 2018 season with an 8-10 overall record and a 3-6 America East conference record.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
Vermont and UMass Lowell meet for the seventh straight season and 21st time in series history Friday night in Lowell. The Catamounts own a 13-6-1 all-time record against the River Hawks.
 
UVM swept UML in both regular season games a season ago. Then-senior Jackie Gillen scored a double overtime goal in the second meeting of the season in Lowell to clinch a 2018 America East Tournament berth.
 
SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS
Holy Cross enters Sunday's contest with a 5-5 overall record. The Crusaders hold wins over Colgate, Lehigh, Sacred Heart, Merrimack and a double overtime win over Bryant. They take on conference opponent American tomorrow afternoon in Washington D.C.
 
Senior Marcia LaPlante has played almost every minute in goal and holds a 1.96 goals against average and a .808 save percentage. Junior Minke Koomen leads the team with six goals and 14 points.
 
In the 2018 season, the Crusaders finished with a 3-14 record and a 2-4 Patriot League record.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
Vermont and Holy Cross meet for the 26th time and first time since 2017 this Sunday in Worcester. The Crusaders hold a 17-8 series record against the Catamounts. UVM's last win in the series came in 2014 in Worcester.
 
ESPELAND SHUTS DOWN LONGWOOD
Junior goalie Sierra Espeland tallied her fourth career shutout in Vermont's 1-0 win at Longwood last weekend. The Stafford, Virginia native held the Lancers scoreless in a game played just two hours from her hometown.
