HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vermont fired all six shots in the opening quarter and finished the first 15 minutes with a 3-0 advantage in shots on goal. Marcia LaPlante (6 saves) made point blank saves on Bailey Matthews and Sophia Cheever.Â
- Holy Cross junior Minke Koomen broke the deadlock in the 19th minute with the Crusaders's first shot of the afternoon. Sinead Walsh assisted on the goal.Â
- After an early second half post, the Catamount offense broke through in the 36th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Freshman Kate Hall fired a shot past LaPlante's right leg to the far post, where Matthews deflected the ball for the goal.Â
- Holy Cross re-established its lead in the 47th minute off a penalty corner during an advantage. Keely Smith flipped a rebound over Sierra Espeland after the initial shot was blocked.Â
- The Cats had four penalty corners in the final five minutes, but were unable to find the late equalizer.
GAME NOTES
- Vermont held a 16-7 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. UVM also had an 8-2 advantage in penalty corners.
- Matthews tallied her second goal of the weekend and team-leading sixth goal of the season.Â
