The Vermont Catamounts (5-7, 1-1 AE) return to America East play at Maine (4-8, 1-1 AE) this Friday (Oct. 18) at Black Bear Sports Complex in Orono, Maine. The conference match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS
Maine enters Friday's conference game with a 4-8 overall record and 1-1 conference mark. The Black Bears opened America East play with a win over UMass Lowell before falling to conference-newcomer Monmouth, 4-2.

Senior Brianna Ricker leads the team with 11 goals and 23 points. Sophomore Chloe Walton, with five goals in 2019, is the only other Black Bear with double digit points.

Sophomore Mia Borley has started every game in goal for Maine. She holds a 2.57 goals against average and .630 save percentage.

Maine travels to Hanover, New Hampshire for a non-conference match against Dartmouth (3-8, 0-3 Ivy).

INSIDE THE SERIES
The Catamounts and Black Bears meet for the 44th time in series history on Friday in Orono, Maine. Vermont defeated the then-15th ranked Black Bears by a 3-0 final last season in Orono, the program's first win over Maine since 2007. Maine holds a 32-10-1 all-time series record against Vermont.

AMERICA EAST AT A GLANCE
The America East field hockey standings are wide open through the opening two games of conference play. In the east division, Monmouth sits atop the standings with a 2-0 record with Vermont, New Hampshire, UAlbany, and Maine just behind at 1-1. UMass Lowell rounds out the group with an 0-2 conference mark. The top four teams of the east division qualify for the 2019 America East Championship, hosted by the top-seeded east division team.

MATTHEWS FINDS TWINE
Junior forward
Bailey Matthews tallied two of Vermont's goals last weekend against UMass Lowell and Holy Cross. Matthews scored her third game-winning-goal of the season after time expired in double overtime at UMass Lowell. She added UVM's lone goal at Holy Cross.

Matthews leads the team with six goals in 2019. With three game-winners, Matthews has the most in a single season since Danielle Collins '08 potted four game-winning goals in 2007. Matthews is tied for 11th in the record book with three career GWGs.
