BOSTON – Tyler Marshall set the UVM record in the 1000 meter run on Saturday to headline Vermont men's track & field at the Valentine Invite. The meet was the Catamounts' final tune-up before the conference championships.

Matt Belfield said. "It was also great for Dan to be back hurdling and at such a high level right away. We'll get our squads set early in the week and get ready for the big one on Friday and Saturday."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marshall's record-setting time of 2:25.86 earned him an 11th-place finish in the 1000 meter run. He also clipped his previous personal mark by 0.84 seconds.
- Dan DeBlieck registered a 24th-place finish in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:05.94. Cam McLaughlin logged a time of 1:07.51 for 37th overall.
- In the 60 meter hurdles, DeBlieck posted a time of 8.34 seconds that narrowly missed his personal-best mark of 8.29.
- Ian Denis finished 29th in the 3000 meter run with a personal-best time of 8:41.25. Senior Jack Carmody finished shortly after with a time of 8:45.28 for 48th place.
- Liam Smith (86th) and Gavin Schmeck (87th) finished 0.01 second apart in the 3000 meter run, with the former posting a time of 8:56.18.
- Chris Gish logged an 81st-place finish in the mile with a time of 4:11.33. The senior set a new personal record, beating his old mark by 2.33 seconds. Neville Caulfield (4:14.21), Matt Hynes (4:15.90), and Steven O'Driscoll (4:16.55) also had personal-best runs.
- Steven Garcia ran a career-best 800 meter time of 1:55.29 for 94th place. Zane Reservitz (96th) finished shortly after with a time of 1:55.33.
NOTES
- Marshall became the first Catamount in program history to crack 2:26.00 in the 1000 meter run. The previous 1000 record was 2:26.05 set by Sean Steinhagen in 2007.
UP NEXT
Vermont track & field returns to Boston next week for the America East Indoor Championships. The conference meet begins on Friday (Feb. 21) at 10 a.m. at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center.
