BURLINGTON, Vt. – UVM head track and field coach
Matt Belfield announced his leadership group for the 2021 outdoor track season on Tuesday. Five men and five women will serve as team captains for the Catamounts.

MEN'S CAPTAINS
Andy Chess •
Gr. • Jumps • Richmond, Va.
- Won the pole vault at the Dartmouth Indoor Invitational with a jump of 4.40m last season.
- Finished fifth in the pole vault at the 2020 America East Indoor Championships with a mark of 4.35m.
Ross Elkort •
Gr. • Distance • Sudbury, Mass.
- In the 2019 outdoor season, he earned a 12th-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase at the America East Championships with a time of 9:30.46.
- Took 10th place in the 3000m steeplechase (9:33.97) at the New England Championships.
Kasey Gelfand • Gr. • Distance • Severna Park, Md.
- Ran a personal-best 800m time of 1:59.04 for eighth place at the 2020 Dartmouth Indoor Invitational.
- Later registered a 3000m time of 8:50.90 for 29th place at the America East Indoor Championships.
Will Juniper • Sr. • Sprints • Tuscon, Ariz.
- Logged personal-bests of 22.36s (200m) and 49.23s (400m) and finished eighth in the 400m run at the 2020 America East Indoor Championships.
- Was also clocked at 49.60s in the 400m dash at the IC4A Championships two weeks later.
DJ Snide • Sr. • Combined Events • Grafton, Vt.
- Opened the 2020 indoor season with a second-place finish in the heptathlon (4,591 pts), including a first-place finish in the shot put at Dartmouth.
- Finished sixth in the heptathlon (4,407 pts) with the top shot put of 13.17m at the America East Indoor Championships.
WOMEN'S CAPTAINS
Marina Cannon • Sr. • Jumps • Littleton, Colo.
- Registered a runner-up finish in the 2019 America East Outdoor Championships with a pole vault of 3.40m
- Pole vaulted a distance of 3.41m at the 2019 New England Outdoor Championships for 13th place.
Mia Grasso • Jr. • Sprints/Hurdles • Skaneateles, N.Y.
- Recorded a time of 1:19.33 in the 500m at the 2020 America East Indoor Championship.
- Registered a personal-best 500m time of 1:16.49 at the 2020 ECAC Indoor Championships
Sonia John • Jr. • Sprints • Burlington, Vt.
- Registered a time of 59.68s in the 400m dash for 19th place at the 2019 Pacific Coast Intercollegiate.
- Competed in the 400m, 4x100m relay, and 4x400m relay at the 2019 America East Outdoor Championships.
Caroline O'Shea • Sr. • Mid-Distance • Nashua, N.H.
- Finished third in the 1000m run at the 2020 America East Indoor Championships with a time of 2:51.82 and earned All-Conference honors.
- Placed eighth in the 1000m run with a time of 2:54.97 at the 2020 ECAC Indoor Championships.
Lexi Sutyak • Sr. • Distance • Beverly, Mass.
- Took 18th place in the 1000m run at the 2020 America East Indoor Championships.
- Ran a personal-best 1000m time of 3:03.64 for 19th at the UAlbany Winter Classic.
Vermont will open the 2021 outdoor season against UMass Lowell on Friday (March 26). The meet will begin at 1 p.m. at the Archie Post Athletic Complex.
