COACH'S QUOTE
"First period was a good period five-on-five," Head Coach
Todd Woodcroft said. "As the game progressed we looked like a team that had not played in seven months and similar to last year, we got into penalty trouble early. They capitalized on two penalties and we couldn't recover. Roster decisions are always influenced by lazy or costly penalties. Tomorrow will see a different lineup."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UConn opened the scoring with 4:20 left in the first period on their third power play opportunity of the game. From the point Andrew Lucas fed a cross-ice feed to Matthew Wood who one-timed it home for his first career goal.
- The Catamounts answered right back with Simon Jellus' first tally of the season 55 seconds later. William Lemay forced a turnover behind the UConn net and fed a feed to Jellus in the slot. Jellus one-timed it past UConn's Logan Terness.
- The Huskies reestablished their lead on the power play early in the second period. Lucas found Ryan Tverberg down low at the side of the net and Tverberg stepped in front and snuck a shot through UVM's Gabe Carriere to make it 2-1. Hudson Schandor also assisted on the goal which came 4:46 into the middle frame.
- UConn scored two goals 27 seconds apart early in the third period to close out the scoring. Tristan Fraser and Nick Capone picked up the goals for the Huskies.
