FIELD HOCKEY NOTEBOOK

The Vermont field hockey team once again starts the weekend on the road with a key league battle Friday before returning home for a non-conference rivalry game on Sunday. The Cats take on #23 Maine Friday afternoon and then Dartmouth comes to town for the final non-conference game of the season Sunday.

All of Friday's action gets underway from the UMaine Field Hockey Complex at 3 p.m. while things get started at noon against the Big Green on Sunday from Moulton Winder Field.

Vermont went 2-0 last weekend with an overtime win at UNH and a wire-to-wire victory over Stonehill. Against the Wildcats,
Sophia Lefranc's great individual effort in overtime sent the Cats to their fourth league win of the season.
Sierra Espeland made nine saves while
Lauren Schellhamer and
Kate Hall also scored for the UVM offense.
Maddie Moran scored twice and
Meg Weyer dished out three assists against the Skyhawks on Sunday.
Olivia Nolan scored her first career goal in the victory.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

The Catamounts are 5-1 in true road games this season with the only loss coming in double-overtime to UAlbany. They have outscored opponents 17-7 on the road this season.

IN THE RECORD BOOKS

Vermont's 11 wins are tied for the second-most in program history while the four league wins are tied for the most in program history. The program record for wins in a season is 12 which was set by the 2007 squad.

SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS

Maine enters the weekend with an 11-4 record and perfect 5-0 mark in league play. The Black Bears had ten game winning streak snapped last Sunday at Boston University but are still ranked #23 in the latest national coaches' poll. Maine leads the league in scoring and Poppy Lambert leads the league with 2.60 points per game. Mia Borley enters the weekend with a 1.60 goals against average in 14 games.

SCOUTING THE BIG GREEN

Dartmouth enters the weekend in the midst of a seven-game losing streak and will take on Columbia Friday before making the short trip to Burlington on Sunday. The last three losses have all been by one goal and against some of the country's top defenses. Goalkeeper Hatley Post made 19 saves – the most in a single game across NCAA DI this season – against Princeton earlier this season and enters the weekend ranked ninth in the country with 6.45 saves per game. Myah Pease leads the team with five goals this season.

SERIES HISTORIES

Friday's matchup will be the 47
th against Maine all-time with the Black Bears holding a 34-11-1 lead in the series. The two teams have split the last four meetings, however, with the Cats winning last year, 3-1, in Burlington. Dartmouth is 28-10-1 against UVM all-time but UVM has won two of the last three including a 2-1 win last year in Hanover.
