COACH'S QUOTE
"Credit to Utah, for traveling across the country, and bringing their A game today. They jumped on us from the beginning and we weren't ready to go, and that starts with me at the top getting our guys ready" head coach
Chris Feifs said. "I thought we showed some flashes in the fourth quarter of what we can do when we play together, when we play fast. But, for whatever reason we didn't come to play today. Quick turnaround for Penn State and we have to get back to work".
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Utes opened the scoring 5:24 into the contest the Catamounts took early control of the contest scoring three times in 54 seconds to take a 3-1 lead with 7:32 to go in the first quarter. Michael McCormack, David Closterman and Brock Haley had the goals for UVM.
- Utah closed the first quarter on a 3-0 run of their own punctuated with a transition goal by Jordan Hyde with four seconds left to take a 4-3 lead after 15 minutes.
- Utah extended that run to seven straight over the next 25 minutes to build an 8-3 lead late in the third quarter.
- UVM cut the lead to three with two straight goals by Closterman and Nick Alviti but the Utes found an answer with two straight of their own to build a 10-5 lead.
- The Cats started to find the offensive groove in the fourth and rattled off five straight to tie the game at 10 thanks to two goals from Jonathon McConvey and Charlie Pope's first collegiate score.
- Tyler Bradbury found Josh Rose in transition for Utah with 1:28 to go and Rose made no mistake for the game-winner.
