Vermont track & field heads to Smithfield, R.I. for the New England Outdoor Championships on Friday and Saturday (May 13 & 14) at Bryant University. Friday's events begin at 11 a.m. at the Bryant Track and Turf Complex, followed by a 10 a.m. start on Saturday. Harrier Race Management will provide live results.

RELIVING LEIGHTON'S NEICAAA VICTORY
Jane Leighton raced to a sizable victory in the steeplechase on the final day of the New England Championships last season. Leighton won by a margin of 30.31 seconds, with a time of 10:34.37.

SONIA'S SCHOOL RECORD AT NEW ENGLANDS
Sonia John set the 400-meter school record on back-to-back days at the 2021 New England Championships. The UVM sprinter posted a time of 55.19 seconds during the prelims, and followed it up with a mark of 54.48 seconds to finish second in the 400-meter finals. John earned All-New England honors in both the 400 and 200-meter dashes.

TRIARSI WINS THE HEP
Vermont junior
Lauren Triarsi won a title in the women's heptathlon at last week's America East Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Triarsi scored 4,448 points to win by a margin of 163 points. The multis specialist opened Day 1 with a sizable cushion and placed third in the long jump (5.13m), fourth in javelin (2.17m) and third in the 800-meter run (2:37.21) on Day 2 to win the program's first heptathlon title since 2015.

SIATON'S RECORD LAST WEEK
Alex Siaton set the men's 200-meter record on Sunday (May 8) at the America East Championships, posting a speedy time of 21.55 seconds. The sophomore bested the previous record set by Justin Scricca in 2009 to finish fifth in the 200-meter finals.
