SCOUTING THE ROCKETS
Toledo brings a three-game winning streak into Wednesday's matchup after earning an 88-87 victory over Marshall on Dec. 13. Ra'Heim Moss leads the offense with 16.2 points per game and 2.6 assists per game. MAC Preseason All-Conference selection Dante Maddox Jr. averages 15.5 points and 2.6 assists this season. Javon Simmons (12.6 ppg) and Tyler Cochran (12.4 ppg) round out the Rockets averaging double figures. Toledo boasts one of the better mid-major offenses in the country, ranking 54th nationally in offensive efficiency.
Â
INSIDE THE SERIES
Vermont has a 1-2 mark in the all-time series with its lone win coming in the 2009 Legends Classic when Maurice Joseph scored 21 points in an 82-49 victory. The Cats are making their first trip to Toledo since 1982. UVM fell to Toledo 84-72 at Patrick Gym a season ago. The loss accounted for one of Vermont's two losses in Burlington over the last 2.5 seasons.
Â
DELONEY VS MADDOX
Aaron Deloney and Dante Maddox Jr. are the two returning players to reach double figures in last year's matchup. Deloney had 15 points on 4-for-6 shooting from long range, while Maddox Jr. had 12 points on 5-for-6 shooting. Both players were named to their respective preseason All-Conference teams.
Â
LOOKING FOR A BOUNCE BACK
The Catamounts enter Wednesday's matchup looking to snap their two-game skid. UVM has had a losing streak extend past two games just one time since the start of 2018 and five times in 13 seasons under
John Becker.
Â
CONTRASTING 3PT ATTACKS
Both teams rank in the nation's top 50 in three-point percentage, but have their differences in how they use the three. UVM shoots threes on 46.7% of its field goal attempts – the seventh-highest rate in the country. Toledo shoots threes on 27.0% of its field goal attempts – one of the lowest rates in the country.
Â
RELOAD
Vermont and Toledo both had to replace over 50% of its offense and minutes from a season ago. Losing four members from last year's starting five, the Catamounts replaced 58.0% of their minutes and 56.7% of their scoring. The Rockets replaced 63.4% of its minutes and 71.2% of it scoring after losing three starters.
Â
REGULAR SEASON TITLES
Both squads have captured conference regular season titles in each of the last three seasons. Toledo has won three straight titles in the Mid-American Conference, but have not advanced out of the conference championship. Vermont's regular season title streak extended to seven straight seasons in 2022-23 – the second longest streak in the country.
