Theresa Schafzahl were named 2022-23 New England Division I Women's All-Stars by the New England Hockey Writers Association Thursday afternoon. The New England Hockey Writers Association will host an awards reception on Wednesday, April 19, at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, MA.
The event will be streamlined to allow attendees an enjoyable reunion of the New England hockey community, starting with food and beverage at 6:00 p.m., with the awards presentation to begin at 7:00 p.m. Cost of the reception is $45 per person. Karjalainen was the second Catamount in program history to be named Army ROTC Hockey East Defender of the Year. She had 3 goals and 24 assists for 27 points this season. She tied a single-season program record with her 24 assists. She was a plus-25 this season and despite playing routinely against team's top lines she took only four minutes in penalties.
For the second season in a row Schafzahl led the Catamounts in scoring with 45 points. Her 45 points are the second-most by a Catamount in a single season. This season she posted 21 goals and 24 assists. She and Karjalainen set the program record for assists in a single season with 24. Theresa completes her career at UVM as the all-time leader in goals (70), assists (74) and points (144).
