BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont men's soccer head coach
Rob Dow announced his team's leadership group for the 2024 campaign on Wednesday morning.
Zach Barrett,
Adrian Schulze Solano, and
Edgar Vargas were voted as captains by the team.
"Zach, Adrian, and Edgar all have a lot of experience in this program. Some of their best qualities are courage, the will to put the team before themselves, and are committed to raising the bar every day. Although they have big shoes to fill, I'm confident they are up for the challenge."
Barrett received America East All-Conference First Team and United Soccer Coaches All-Northeast First Team honors in 2023, playing 90 minutes or more in 13 games. A native of Phoenixville, Pa., Barrett has received All-Conference and All-Region honors in each of the last three seasons. In late March, Barrett scored the first U.S. Open Cup goal in Vermont Green FC history.
Schulze Solano earned starts in 14 of 17 games played last season and will serve as captain for the first time in 2024. The Bad Soden am Taunus, Germany native has received America East All-Conference Second Team honors in each of the last two season. He was also named to the All-Academic Team in 2023.
Vargas serves as a captain for the second consecutive season. The Yakima, Wash. native has a career .833 save percentage and 0.40 goals against average.
