BURLINGTON, Vt. – Coming off the program's first National Championship, Vermont opens the 2025 campaign ranked No. 1 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Preseason Poll, the first time in UVM athletics history a team has been ranked No. 1 in the country by a preseason poll.

United Soccer Coaches 2025 Preseason Rankings
The Catamounts earned a 16-2-6 record during the 2024 season, never surrendering a loss at home from Virtue Field (8-0-4). Vermont became the first America East team to ever win a NCAA National Championship and were the first team sport to achieve a National Championship in UVM athletics history. The squad was able to capture their seventh America East Championship (second in four years) along the way and scored the most goals in the NCAA Tournament out of any team (13).
Vermont is the only America East team to be ranked in the top 25 preseason poll, earning four first place votes and 193 total points. 2024 National Runner-up Marshall is No. 2 after picking up 192 points and three first-place votes, while Ohio State is third with one first-place vote and 188 points. Denever (179) and SMU (159) round out the top-five.
Following last season's National Championship, Vermont Head Coach
Rob Dow's squad saw five players move on to play professionally.
Max Murray (NYCFC) and
Sydney Wathuta (Rapids 2) were both drafted in the first round of the 2024 MLS SuperDraft while
Zach Barrett (Huntsville),
Yaniv Bazini (Tormenta), and
Mike Bleeker (Chattanooga) all put pen to paper, signing their first professional contracts with their new teams.
Vermont will face three of the preseason top 25 teams this season (Georgetown, Akron, and Hofstra). The Catamounts kick off the 2025 season at home, hosting Sacred Heart on Thursday, August 21 at 6 p.m. from Virtue Field for the team's season opener. UVM will then stay at home for an afternoon matchup with Boston University on Sunday, August 24 at 1 p.m.
