COACH'S QUOTE
"We started our outdoor season with some very encouraging performances," said Head Coach
Matt Belfield. "Sam's victory was her second-best ever throw and got her a third consecutive opening meet victory. Eli and Emma were also very good in the debuts. Rachel had a solid 1500 last night, despite fighting off illness this week. Hoping for better weather in New England soon, so we can get the whole team back into action."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first Catamount competitor took to the track on Thursday with Rachel Barba participating in the women's 1500m run. She finished seventh in a 20-person field with a time of 4.43.85.
- On Friday Eli Lammi got the day started for Vermont in the men's discus throw. He launched a toss 45.91m for a second-place finish in his 2026 debut.
- Emma Wapshare also brings home a second-place finish from the trip to Florida. Her Javelin throw travelled 43.99m to earn second by just .01m ahead of third.
- That set the table for Alexander's victorious performance in the discus. Her mark of 42.23m was her longest since 2024 when she entered a top-10 school result.
- Adriana Rodriguez finished fourth in the women's discus throw on Friday with a 32.28m toss.
- Barba returned to wrap up the event for Vermont in the women's 800m. She placed 18th posting a 2:23.23.
