Vermont was selected as the America East preseason favorite in the conference's 2026 preseason coaches' poll, marking the first time in program history the Catamounts have been picked to win the conference. The Catamounts tied UAlbany for first with 21 points, receiving three first-place votes compared to UAlbany's one.

Alicia Battistelli, Consu De Castro, and Veerle Nijhuis all earned preseason All-Conference honors. Battistelli led the Catamounts with nine goals last season, adding two assists for 20 points earning America East All-Conference First Team honors. Castro earned Second Team honors after recording seven goals and three assists for 17 points. Nijhuis was named America East Rookie of the Year and earned spots on the All-Rookie Team and Second Team after tallying seven goals and two assists for 16 points in 2025.Â

The Catamounts are 23-19-4 all-time in home openers. Their last win at home to open the season came in 2024, when Vermont defeated Wagner 2-0.

Vermont's last win over Northeastern came in 2022, when the Catamounts shutout the Huskies 2-0 down in Boston.
