Vermont Women’s Hockey Unveils 2014-15 Schedule

BURLINGTON, Vt.
– The University of Vermont has announced a slate of 34 games and one exhibition for the 2014-15 season. The Catamounts will host a total of 19 contests at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
 
Vermont begins the season hosting McGill University for an exhibition on Friday September 26 at 7 p.m. The Martlets are the defending national champions in Canada.
 
The Catamounts open the regular season on a three-game road trip facing Bemidji State (Oct. 3), North Dakota (Oct. 4) and Rensselaer (Oct. 11). Vermont's home opener will be Sunday October 12 against Rensselaer in the tail end of a home-and-home weekend series.
 
On Friday October 24 the Catamounts will host Union at 7 p.m. in the second annual Pack the Gut Challenge presented by the Windjammer Inn & Conference Center. Vermont will look to build upon last year's successful event, which set a new regular season Hockey East attendance record.
 
The Catamounts begin Hockey East play on Sunday November 2, as they host Connecticut at 2 p.m. Following the matchup Vermont embarks on a six-game road trip to face New Hampshire, Boston College, Syracuse (2), and Northeastern before closing out the month of November with a two-game series at home against Maine (Nov. 29/30).
 
On December 6 the Catamounts will host Boston U at 4 p.m. in the teams only meeting this season at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Marie Philip-Poulin, who scored the game-winning goal for Canada in the 2014 Olympics, will be making her final regular season appearance at the Gut.
 
Vermont closes out 2014 with their annual matchup against Dartmouth on Sunday December 14 at 7 p.m. Last season the Vermont defeated its nearest Division I rival for the first time in program history.
 
At the start of the New Year Vermont hosts Colgate on January 2 and 3 before closing out the regular season with 13 Hockey East games. During that stretch Vermont hosts Boston College (Jan. 17/18), Northeastern (Jan. 30), Providence (Feb.1) and New Hampshire (Feb. 13/14). The Catamounts will honor their six seniors on the final home weekend against New Hampshire.
 
The Hockey East quarterfinals are set for the weekend of February 27 to March 1 at campus sites. New this season the quarterfinals will be a best of three series hosted by the top four seeds.

The four series winners will advance to the Hockey East semifinals and championship which will take place March 7 and 8 at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center in Hyannis, Mass.
 
The Hockey East champion will receive an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament, which starts the following weekend. NCAA quarterfinal games will be played at campus locations March 13-14, and the 2015 Women's Frozen Four will be held at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis on March 20 and 22.
